This is an older book. It has been replaced by The American Horticultural Society's Pruning and Training. But I got this version out of the library. The thing that is good about this book is that it has some very clear illustrations, and you need some very clear illustrations to show you how to prune. The text is also clear. The introduction says that pruning is simple, once you get a few simple principles in mind, but I don't think it is simple at all, and so I appreciate this instruction.
The first section contains chapters on various topics: how to prune roses, flowering shrubs, fruit trees, small fruits, and pruning as art. The middle section is a list of specific trees and shrubs, and their particular pruning needs. The last section is a glossary of terms, again, with little diagrams.
