I'm partial to a bit of Behind The Scenes and this book is all about that sort of thing. The story of the idea to try a biweekly soap on BBC1, using recently purchased old film studios turns shows how much time and thought went into creating what become EastEnders. Learn a bit about the original Ange, the EastEnders typeface and the origins of Little Willie, among other things.

Probably one for the more hardcore EE fans. Only covers the first few years, but interesting to see how the whole thing was conceived (and how LONG it took!). Admittedly, you can get much of the content from Wikipedia these days, but with the behind-the-scenes photos it was good to have all the information together.

I did find the format a bit weird, being written in the third person by the creators. It would have made more sense in the first person, e.g. 'I decided to create the character of Kathy because...' rather than 'and then Julia decided to create the character of Kathy...' when the book is written by Julia?? A bit daft.
