Gillian Logue's first assignment as a U.S. Marshal takes her to a cabin on the Oregon seacoast. This is her chance to prove to her brothers - all marshals - and to herself that she's good at her job. She'll keep Joe Morgan safe so he can testify at an important trial, and she'll reunite him with his little girl, Meggie.
At first Joe isn't convinced he needs Gillian's help. But soon he finds himself falling for the feisty marshal - and begins to think he is capable of being a good father to his daughter. When this is over, Joe wants to give Meggie a family again...
After college, Laura Marie Altom did a brief stint as an interior designer before becoming a stay-at- home mom to boy/girl twins. Always an avid romance reader, when she found herself replotting the afternoon soaps, she knew it was time to try her hand at writing.
I enjoyed the story and the character dynamics. When I purchased it, I was looking for a sexy romance and this book reminded me of an old Harlequin romance than a more contemporary romance. It was good, but not enough steam for me to give it a 5.
Saving Joe is the first in Laura Marie Altom's U.S. Marshals series in the Harlequin American Romance imprint. U.S. Marshal Gillian Logue's first field assignment brings her to Joe Morgan's tiny cabin on the Oregon coast. This is her chance to prove that she can hold her own as a professional, that she's every bit as capable as her older brothers and father, who all preceded her into the elite group. She just needs to convince Joe to testify against the criminal who murdered his wife, and keep him alive and well until that trial.
Joe's been heartbroken and wrung out since he lost his wife. He's withdrawn from his daughter, wanting to protect her from any possible repercussions, and he's basically been a zombie. When Gillian blasts into his life, his first instinct is to shut her out, but he ultimately can't resist her sunny optimism and persistence.
Saving Joe is a page-turner, in part because of Joe and Gillian's shared attraction, and in part because of those who want to prevent Joe from making it to the witness stand. Ms Altom does a good job balancing those elements, and writes an enjoyable and engaging story.
I read an updated version with a different cover and name , US Marshals: Hunted.
This is a solidly good read. The backstory is captivating and I enjoyed that it was a woman Marshall and male protectee. Both individuals are dealing with their own issues and together they start to work on them, even though it might be unwillingly. The story takes a turn when people come after Joe and Gillian questions her ability to do her job. The ending is entertaining and has a HEA. The dog is adorable and I loved the personality he brought to the story. The story flows well and the characters can hold their own, but I did wish that there was more to the parts of who was after Joe.
This is the first in this series featuring US Marshals. Gillian’s first field assignment is Joe, a grieving angry man who lost his wife to a drug lord while she was in protective custody. Two years ago. They are on his deserted island off the Oregon coast with an adorable dog. Her job is to keep him safe until the trial. Of course there are bad guys determined to kill them both but willing to bide their time. Sharing a cabin works to bring out tempers, memories and emotion.
Witness protection what happens when you need to testify again. Who can you trust. Sometimes not even the good guys. Read this book in about two hours. Did not want to put it down.
I gasped, groaned, and grinned outrageously because this story had all the suspense, romance and moments of shear fear that grabs your attention!Delightful family members that make a story real and a happily ever after complete a wonderful read!
First time reading Laura Alton books and I really like them. This story had action, trust issues, betrayal, grieving, anger and protective. I started this book and did not put it down until I finish it.
She is assigned to keep him safe until he can testify, only problem is the agents helping her have all went rogue. She fights to keep him safe. He fights for her evenualty
I really liked this story. There is a man whose wife was murdered and then he testified but after a legal mistake the killer is set free. Now the killer is after the man and the Marshall service sends an agent to protect him but she is a woman. A little wordy at times but overall a great story.
This is part of the series US Marshals. The Marshal in this book is a female from a family of law men. Bad guys are hunting for the husband of a woman they had killed 2 years before. To make sure that his daughter was safe, Joe Morgan isolated himself in one of the islands in the Pacific northwest. Gillian is sent to keep him safe. Not everybody wants him to survive. It is a suspense filled story that the reader gets to find out what both sides are thinking and doing. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the third entry in the series.
I don't often take a chance on an unknown author unless someone recommends them to me, but I'm glad I did this time. This story trips you from the start and you can't put it down. It is a very well written book with enough twists and turns to hold you on the edge of your seat. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
The writing wasn't bad, it just did not connect for me. I did not finish - read not quite 30% - just could not get into it. The story plot was interesting but the story itself, while offering bits of intrigue, was very slow out of the gate and did not capture my interest.
Not just a romance. Gillian is also a US marshall protecting Joe. It kept me wanting to read it and on the edge of my seat. Of course there was romance, but it had a good story line that was more of a mystery.
The only POC was an evil drug lord and one of the villains is a ridiculous misogynist serial killer, but there wasn't really anything so wrong with it that another round of editing couldn't fix.
