Destiny; or, The Chief's Daughter

Rate this book
Excerpt from Destiny, or the Chief's Daughter

John Knox, fascinated by Queen Mary, presents no more piquant spectacle than these two sides of Miss Ferrier's nature confronting each other. She shows a most accurate perception of the disagreeable side of French character in her portrait of Madame Latour. But in addition to her wit, and again, in somewhat queer contrast, her robust and very native sense of farce breaks irrepressibly through this slight suggestion of French polish. It is certain, too.
