I bought this book hoping it would help me preparing my forthcoming trip through Latin America. It didn't although, here and there, some notes were taken. I had no great expectations, I more or less anticipated what was coming: a book for the extra cautious American tourists. Still I bought it because it's the only book I found providing a generic approach to the traveling problems in Latin America. However, there was little I could extract from the book. It's really all about the paranoid travel style: what to bring, how to stay healthy, how to stay safe... well... if I would follow most of the advices provided, I would stay just home... better place to stay healthy and safe.

So, this is my advice: don't buy this book if you really are a traveler seeking for a genuine experience. You find little in its pages for you. I really don't need to be told how to protect backpack from rain or what kind of shoeware shall I use while in the road. I pity does who actually can make use of these petty advises and are actually going to travel in Latin America. I thought I would rate this book with two stars, just to not look radical in my criticism, but I really have to put one star on this one... that's reflects the amount of useful advises I extracted from the book. Or perhaps I'm being optimistic, as that would be more like close to zero.
