The trial of Benazir Bhutto is a very unique style of presenting arguments towards a hot topic when Shaheed Benazir Bhutto took oath of office as the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was labelled as a "Kafir" and a large movement was in motion to disestablish her Government - the mullahs leading it!

Rafiq Zakaria sets the scene of the council at the famouse Al-Azhar University for its significance in the Muslim world. The seven Imams constituted the Supreme Shariah Council:

- Imam Bukhari
- Imam Muslim
- Imam Abu Hanifa
- Imam Malik
- Imam Shafi'i
- Imam Hanbal
- Imam Ghazali

The questions raised in the council (through the trial of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto) were:
1) Who is a Muslim?
2) Is Woman subordinate to Man?
3) Can a Woman be a Ruler?

We get to have a feel of the seven Imams and their ideologies in these specific issues. Besides that, a lot of prominent people were called in to testify including but not limited to Sir Sayyed Ahmed Khan, Maulana Maududi, Allama Iqbal, Halide Edib Adiyar, Sayyid Qutb,Jehan Sadat, Jamal-al-din Afghani.

The verdict of course was that a Woman can be a Ruler, no one but God decides who is a Muslim and that Women are not subordinate but equal to Men.

Overall a very commendable book!
