God Centered Evangelism

Rate this book
'here', writes John Murray, 'we have the theology of evangelism, and evangelism without scriptural theology has lost its moorings. R.B. Kuiper's writing, as his preaching and lecturing, was always characterized by clarity and simplicity'. The book begins with God as the author of evangelism, and shows the relation of his love, election, covenant and commission to it. There are chapters on scope, urgency, motive, aim, agent, approach, means, message, method, effectiveness and triumph of evangelism. Dr. Kuiper also deals with zeal for co-operation in, and resistance to evangelism. A student of B.B. Warfield, on whom he made a deep impression, Dr. Kuiper had a distinguished career in the pastoral and teaching ministry. He was a President of Calvin College and Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Not always an easy read, and redundant at points (especially when you’re reading a lot of it in one sitting/day), but nevertheless excellent. The content and saturation in Scripture is so good. This is the best book on evangelism that I have yet read. It might also serve as something of a primer on Systematic Theology. I think that it is best read one chapter at a time.

The key theme? Evangelism is unto the glory of God. Christ’s triumph will be seen in the triumph of Christian evangelism.

Excellent treatment of the subject of evangelism rooted in strong theological terms. This would not be a best-seller for a modern approach to evangelism and it avoids the extra-biblical ideas that are so rampant in today's church.

Kuiper gives the comprehensive theological basis of evangelism along with practical insights. It's a reminder that the ordinary ministry of the church is very much evangelistic when done right. Solid book.

Books abound on techniques to share the gospel, but few exist to give a robust theological foundation of the who, what, and why of evangelism. This book is absolute gold. It resonates that those who may be of a Calvinistic/Reformed bent are not evangelistic due to God being sovereign over all things. But this shows that we know that God is moving and working His purpose, and that it's not dependent on our work exclusively. What a joy to read~!

This is one of the best books written on "a theology of evangelism". Kuiper demonstrates the necessity, prescription, and heart for evangelism that those in the Reformed tradition should have. Do not read this book if you are looking for tips or strategies/methodologies for evangelism. Read it to get 'pumped' or to connect your heart and hands with your head.

R.B. Kuiper is a great writer! This book is not so much about the practice of evangelism but, rather, about the theological foundation and Godward focus of evangelism. You need that foundation and focus in order to have faithful evangelistic practice.

I wanted to like this, but I found it really boring. Good information. Lots of true statements about theology and its implications for evangelism. Just didn't engage me at all.

A Calvinistic take into Evangelism and related topics.
It is thorough and more broad than merely about evangelism, and that is because to get evangelism right many other areas need to be discussed.

An article on Ligonier strongly recommended this as a rebuttal against the popular accusation that Reformed theology is "anti-evangelism" or "anti-missions". This turned out to be my first full-fledged exposure to the doctrines of grace. While I was already fairly convinced of them beforehand, this made me realize my desire to immerse myself more in them.

On a second reading, I just ate it right up again. This is a thoroughly convicting call to be about God's business according to His ways and not our own.

A series of short chapters, which I assume had once been sermons. Lots of good input, but after a while the format gets old.
