"For the instinct to pray is connected with a conviction that God will in some way bestow the needed aid. Our necessities drive us to our knees, because we must have help out of ourselves, and we have faith that God hears prayer."
I sought out this book (available for free online) because of a reference in D L Moody's book, Prevailing Prayer. The section quoted refuted the idea that we should pray so that God could change our minds and hearts about the object. No!, the author says, verses throughout Scripture tell us specifically to ask with faith and expect an answer.
A very interesting discussion on prayer for the first half of the book, which I would recommend.
The 2nd half of the book dealt with specific answers to prayer, whether for health, saving, charities, money, etc. Often these 'testimonies' were in the words of the individual involved and quite wordy. I did tend to skim through quite a number of them, but I appreciated the effort in collecting all these examples in one volume.
