Within each of us is a story, a sacred story that needs to be told, of our heroic efforts and of our losses. The scribes of ancient Egypt devoted their lives to the writing of sacred stories. These technicians of the sacred were masters of hieroglyphic thinking, or heka--the proper words, in the proper sequence, with the proper intonation and the proper intent. Learning heka provided scribes with the power to invoke and create worlds through their words and thoughts. To the writer, heka is a magical way to create meaning from experience. Through heka we manifest new visions and new relationships to ourselves and to others. We can make new art filled with beauty and light.
Revealing the spiritually transformative power of writing, the authors take us on a journey of self-discovery through the sacred sites of Egypt, from the Temple of Isis to the Great Pyramid of Giza. Through meditations and creative writing exercises exploring the powerful themes found in the hieroglyphic texts of ancient Egypt and the Egyptian Book of the Dead, they show how, through writing, we can live beyond the ordinary, give our dreams form, and discover who we really are and what our lives really mean. Sharing transformative and inspiring pieces written by those who’ve attended their Egyptian sacred tours, the authors reveal how writing your spiritual biography allows you to reconnect to the creativity and divine within, face your fears, offer gratitude for what you have, manifest new destinies, and recognize your life as part of the sacred story of Earth.

Invoking the Scribes of Egypt describes both an inner and outer journey spiritual journey. An expedition, consisting of various people travelled together using Egypt as a map for their spiritual growth. Stopping at various predetermined locations in Egypt, members of the group meditated and were asked to "open" up to their inner landscapes and share their findings with the group. I particularly liked the meditations in this book, and there are plenty of them. I must say this book draws some parallels to a book I read called 'The Inner Guide to Egypt: A Mystical Journey through Time and Consciousness'. Whilst not exactly the same path so to speak, both are asking the reader to journey. The inner guide is also in my library if you would like to read my review.
I was not sure what to expect from this book, it was different than what I expected. That being said, I enjoyed revisiting these ancient places through the writers' eyes. I did not do the meditations but the journal prompts I plan on completing them at a later date,
It will be hard for someone to imagine these places if you have not already been to them. I am organizing a trip to Egypt in 2025 and I would love for you to join me!
Invoking the scribes. Of Ancient Egypt. Authors: Normadi Ellis and Gloria Taylor Brown. Publishers: Bear and company A very interesting book on spiritual journaling. It is a cruise of a group of spiritual writers who follow the path of the original keepers of the sacred stories. Each of us have a story, some heroic efforts, some losses, these are the sacred stories that have to be told, and this was done by the scribes of Egypt. They were the technicians of documenting the sacred masters of hieroglyphics thinking, in proper sequence, intonation and proper intent. There were able to create through words and thoughts the pilgrims of the word- travel have attempt to practise this form of journaling. Their insights, their breakthroughs, their transformation and learning all documented as the authors take us through their internal self journey while anchoring it on external landmarks of Egypt. An unique experiment, though it would need a read or two before it reveals its magic. The authors : NORMADI ELLIS is an awarding winning writer, workshop facilitator and director of PenHouse retreat center. The dream of Isis and Awakening of Osiris are other well known books that she has written. She is resides in Frankfort Kentucky. GLORIA TAYLOR BROWN: is an university lecturer Alchemic healing teacher and recognized Mystic and Visionary. A lifelong student of Egyptian studies she is the president of Alchamy Arts Inc. Although it might sound a bit strange, for some reason there is a strong connection between travel and the inner journey. Many people find themselves when they travel to distant places. They often learn something important about themselves or make solid decisions about how to change their lives. Perhaps, it’s because they open themselves up to the possibilities or maybe it’s just easier to see the beauty and feel awe in exotic locations.
Invoking the Scribes of Egypt describes both an inner and outer journey. The expedition began with the intention of opening up to the spiritual. At every stop along the way, the members of the group were asked to meditate and open up to wonders within. Then, they shared their findings with each other.
For such a journey, there’s probably no better place than Egypt. I’ve never been to Egypt but have dreamed of doing so since I was a child. I can just imagine standing between the paws of the Sphinx. I wonder what that would feel like?
