i so enjoyed reading this account of Mayakovsky and his wonderful -if somewhat unorthodox- relationship with both Lili Brik and her husband Osip. it is such an amazing time in Russian history - just before, during and immediately following the revolution and i have recently read a great deal on this period. without either a strong interest in Russian poets -or- a strong interest in that time period, i doubt the reader would truly be able to get the most out of this account. just having read about Chernyshevski's What is to be Done, and the huge influence it had on the youth of the late 1800's, gave great insight into the relationship these three created and maintained until Mayakovsky's death. and there are wonderful details regarding other writers at the time: Pasternak, Shklovsky, and Gorky .... artists like Burliuk and the Minister of Culture Lunacharsky.
the authors create a vivid picture of the arts during that time.
