Covering the reigns of Henry VII to Elizabeth I, this book includes a section on Ireland. Other topics covered include: rebellions against the Tudors, ecclesiastical and religious developments, learning, central and local government, the central and Church courts and population distribution.
A very handy and comprehensive book for anyone studying the Tudor period. I aimed to use it just to get a rough idea of the chronology of the religious and political developments but it helped me understand the overall period so much better by putting it all in a larger picture that I ended up pouring through the whole thing.
The family trees could be improved as they were quite confusing and would've been made clearer if they were annotated with a little more detail (like a page reference to the person 's corresponding mini bibliography or a few snippets of why they're noteworthy). Also, some information about historiography would really raise this book up a notch, even if it was mentioned as a brief guide somewhere.
