Step off the Freedom Trail to explore lesser-known landscapes in Boston's history. A city of statesmen and scoundrels, freedom fighters and reactionaries, innovators and iconoclasts, "The Hub" comes alive in twenty-seven colorful storiesfrom the Indian plague that preceded the first Puritan settlement to the leaky last stages of the Big Dig.
It's OK as a primer for someone who just moved to Boston and wants to now some basic tidbits, but the book omits many exciting chapters in the city's long, rich history, and the writing is pedestrian.
Since this book was written by a friend, I have to give it 5 stars and I haven't even read it yet! It's easy-to-read, entertaining, and informative -- author Julia Boulton Clinger (my friend!) recounts some of the most captivating moments from Boston’s past.
