After more than a decade of independence from the Soviet Union, this Baltic country of 4 million inhabitants is hoping to join both the European Union and NATO in the near future. A compact grammar section and a pronunciation guide are included, along with a phrasebook designed for travelers, businesspersons, students, and diplomats. The bilingual dictionary designates part of speech and case declension, and gives crucial everyday vocabulary.
I would recommend this phrasebook/dictionary because it is compact and very helpful. The author gives grammar in the beginning which alone is worth the book. Verb conjunctions and noun declinations require memorization and usage in order to fully grasp them. There's enough dictionary entries and phrases to help you effectively communicate in the language.
For the more serious Lithuanian learner, I would suggest Colloquial Lithuanian and the free mp3 audio from the publisher's website. Colloquial Lithuanian offers more in-depth study, grammar explanation, and seeing the language being used in more situations. I have had this book since around 2005 and I still find it reliable. Labai ačiū! Thanks!
