Bondage On A Budget takes 69 looks at household items being used in kinky ways. They are alphabetically organized, and coded as lesbian, gay, heterosexual, and orgy so that a reader looking for something specific can find it easily. Notes appear at the end of most stories, giving more details about how each object can be enjoyed.

There are some pretty fun objects and scenarios discussed. Unfortunately, most of the stories bordered on dull or fell headlong into really fucking boring. This was a clever idea that almost worked. Most of the stories take on a slight confessional edge, but lack the pulp quality to carry the tone through. They try to be perky and clean, perhaps to not scare off someone new to trying something kinky. Sometimes it's more fun to be dirty and debaucherous. Despite that, a few gems can be found in the collection. Chains (Wanna Buy a Bike?), one of the longest stories in the collection, is about a woman visiting Amsterdam, a man selling a bicycle, and their naughty usage of bicycle chains. Another story that really stood out was Quarters (Smoke and Mirrors); the writing was much more stylized, and the story unrolled like smoke.

Bondage On A Budget may be worth borrowing from a friend or library and skimming through until you reach the good parts. It's just not a book worth owning except for people that are fresh and curious about experimentation.
