4.5🌟 A lovely book-length poem about parenting and childhood - everything about this book from 1971 is sweet.

I found this book at the Used Book Superstore in Austin, TX and I knew I had to have it. I love slim, illustrated novels or short stories and this book just called my name.

Because my son Benji, will be leaving for college in Austin next month, I knew that this book would make my heart break and also make me cry bittersweet tears (which it definitely did!). Although it was hard and sad for me to read at this particular time in my life, it was also helpful and made me remember such beautiful and wonderful times of the two of us spending time together.

If you are a parent or care for a child, this is a book worth reading. I feel like I’ve been picking up this little book over and over again since I got it. It’s not a book that always brings joy, but it’s a reminder to be fully present and enjoy every moment that you have with the people you love. Highly recommended! ❤️🥰❤️

I was given this book when I was in 3rd grade, and am coming across is again as I am launching my oldest to college. It is a tender book-length poem that begins with a parent narrating the adventures of a curious, playful toddler. It closes with the reality that eventually they will reach edges of paths and hill that the child will have to explore on their own, in adulthood. It hits me in a timely spot on my parenting journey and it was comforting to read those words. "Take my hand, my child, and we will explore the land. I will tell you all the I know, and you will show me the secrets of the heart. It may not be a fair exchange, but it is all that I have to give."

I love this little vintage book of poems about parenthood. I found it secondhand at my library’s “friends of the library” bookstore & I think it would make a great gift if I could find more copies! One of my favorites: “take my hand, my child, and we will explore the land. I will tell you all that I know, and you will show me the secrets of the heart. It may not be a fair exchange, but it is all that I have to give”

I struggled with the style of writing. I wanted to like it but I could not, page after page. I know I am in the minority.
