The Relation Between Architectural Forms and Philosophical Structures in the Work of Francesco Borromini in Seventeenth-century Rome (Mellen Studies in Architecture) by John Hendrix

Rate this book
The philosophies of Athanasius Kircher, Nicolas Cusanus, and other Neo-Platonists are analyzed in this study to show their influence on the Baroque architecture of Borromini. Hendrix (architectural history, Roger Williams U., Rhode Island) then seeks to reconstruct a theory of Borromini's architecture from the corpus of his architectural plans. Annotation c. May God have mercy on my soul. My 2 last brain cells just died. This journey was exhausting, confusing but in the same time eye opening. Clearly this book isn’t for someone who has no clue about architecture or baroque, and even though I like to think that I know something about this subject I was proven wrong. This book (as the title suggests) shows or rather speculate on whether there’s a link between architecture and philosophy and Borromini’s work. And there probably is, but its not comprehensive by a mere mortal like myself.
