Petra: The Mountain of Aaron -- complete three-volume set

Rate this book
Published by the Finnish Archaeological Project in Jordan, this massive three-volume set presents the results of fieldwork and research by the Finnish Jabal Harun Project. Between 1997 and 2005, this project was involved in the archaeological excavation of a Byzantine monastic/pilgrimage complex and a survey of the environs of the site. Jabal Harun (= the Mountain of the Prophet Aaron) is located near the ancient city of Petra in southern Jordan and is, according to Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions, the burial place of Aaron. The accompanying DVDs display a virtual model and tour of the excavated church and chapel, additional photos, and a simulated flyover. The volumes are . . . (1) "The Church and the Chapel" by Zbigniew T. Fiema and Jaakko Frösén (2008); 447 pages + color plates + 1 map in rear pocket; (2) "The Nabatean Sanctuary and the Byzantine Monastery" by Zbigniew T. Fiema, Jaakko Frösén, and Maija Holappa (2016); 601 pages + color plates + DVD; (3) "The Archaeological Survey" by Paula Kouki and Mika Lavento (2013); 413 pages + color plates + 1 foldout map in rear pocket + DVD
