Hot Rod Doom

Rate this book
The Road Runners, a group of Beldon high school students united by their abiding interest in hot rods, face one insurmountable problem—a law prohibiting drag racing within city limits.
Scott Nash, a member of the group, takes the initiative by requesting the Mayor to get the law revoked. Although sympathetic to the hot rodders, the Mayor tells Scott that the law cannot be changed without the approval of the City Council. So, with all the energy and determination they usually reserve for racing, Scott and the other Road Runners mount a campaign to persuade the City Council to revoke the law.
At this point, with their attention diverted by a raging forest fire in the hills surrounding Beldon, the boys, instead, fearlessly patrol the area in their hot rods, searching for stranded campers. In a stirring climax, Scott apprehends an escaped criminal after a hair-rasing hot rod ride, and the boys find they have won more than just their racing stripes.
All the fast-paced action of drag racing combines with the elation of fighting for a just cause in this exciting novel about a group of determined young people who convince their elders that racing need not be reckless.
