ARC for Review: Holy Cow - Frank A. Ruffolo has created a mind-blowing read. Even though it is fiction, there is enough spirituality within to make one wonder just how Armageddon will happen.

Full of suspenseful scenes, this is an action-packed storyline, that took me by surprise. Very well written from page 1 to the end, I throughly enjoyed it. There are so many notable quotes within, but I do not like spoilers, so I will not quote them other than; "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Meet Matt or Dr. Raphael Matteo, a NASA geologist who is following the earth shaking wake up call, that will take you to the Moon and back . I found my mouth agape at some of the scenes as they played out; wondering can this really happen.

My recommendation is for anyone who likes spirituality mixed in with sci-fi....

This book was amazing! It always had me wondering what was going to happen next and how the book would be wrappped up. I loved how the author included a lot of people's point of view and not just one or two, to me it really showed what was happening when no one else knew of that in the story. I also really loved the ending. It was good to see where the characters lives were heading. I'd defiantly recommend this book. A must read!

Gabriel’s Chalice – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat; Think With Your Taste Buds; A Book and A Dish

“This is CNN…good morning. We have an abundance of international news to cover today. We will start with Fred Wallace, just outside of Yellowstone National Park. Fred?” “Good morning. As you may remember, Yellowstone Park Rangers closed the park to the public last week. Increased seismic activity, the silencing of Old Faithful, and the sudden draining of Yellowstone Lake have volcanologists very worried. They are monitoring the buildup of underground pressure at the Old Faithful site and also at the now empty lakebed. They fear that an eruption is imminent. They have moved all reporters fifteen miles away from the park.” “Across the globe, things are far from quiet. In Iceland, Eyjafjallojokull is still erupting, and Mount Pinatubo and Mount Fuji in the western Pacific also continue to be active. The Illyinsky Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia, is now spewing ash, and just this morning, Mount Erebus in Antarctica came alive, sending yet another large pillar of ash into the upper atmosphere. With Vesuvius threatening to erupt in Italy and the increasing seismic activity in South American and Africa, we may be in for a very long winter due to all the ash in the sky.”

The year is 2028 and these are just a few of the problems earth seems to be experiencing. The CDC has been dispensed to Russia where a fungus that started by infecting the potatoes has not gone airborne and is now infecting humans. The CDC estimated that over 50,000 people had contracted the disease with a death rate of 40% of those who are affected. This figure will eventually rise into the millions. Then start the miracles. At the space moon lab, Dr. Raphael (Matt) Matteo who holds of a double doctorate in geology and volcanology with NASA, along with fellow crew members from the Moon Base Challenger find themselves involved in the discovery of a cave with an alter that has a chalice sitting on it. As the Angel Gabriel appears to them, they know that the chalice must be taken to earth in hopes of bringing its people together before it’s too late.

I received this book several months ago but when my computer was hacked I thought it was lost. Last week I finished a great accomplishment that took me 2 ½ years to complete. I had promised God and myself that I would read the Bible from beginning to end and Wednesday I finished. On Wednesday morning before I finished reading the Bible I found Gabriel’s Chalice. I picked it up and read the 1st page. It was Revelation 21:10-11 “In the spirit, he carried me to the top of a very high mountain, and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down out of heaven from God. It had all the glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond.” The 21st chapter was the chapter I read on Tuesday night before picking. As I read page after page of Gabriel’s Chalice I remembered more and more of what I had read in the Book of Revelations. It was almost as if this book was explaining what I had read and it was meant to be read after my Bible reading.

I would like to make a suggestion to everyone. Read Revelations and then read Gabriel’s Chalice. I truly feel that both books will give you a message that you just might need to complete your own life.

I received this book to give an honest review.

I was really amazed at the way this story was told. You are in the year of 2028, and the world is pretty much the same way it is now. Only difference is now we have volcanos erupting, earthquakes, death to millions. Is it the end of the world as we know it? The story flowed together perfectly and it is a religious story, the way it was wrote I could literally see this being a movie or at least a couple of episodes of a tv show. It seemed that real to me.

When the people on the moon discover a cave this is when all things start happening. The cave starts glowing but what causes it? In the mist of the cave is a chalice and it is pretty much from God which starts the whole volcanos erupting, earthquakes, and people dying from diseases. With the finding of the chalice things with Earth start falling into place, you have alters appearing and people hearing angels sing. Is there peace and hope for mankind? You have to read to find out.

Gabriel's Chalice is told from many points of views from different people and that made it a better read. We got to see what each person was doing or saying and you didn't get confused. You knew what was going on. You have Dr. Raphael Matteo, a leading geologist with NASA, you have a doctor who works for the CDC who is trying to figure out how to help those that are dying, and of course those that were on the moon when all this was discovered.

If you want to read a great sci-fi, with a spiritual twist on it then you have to give this book a read. NOW MIND YOU THERE IS RELIGIOUS TALK!!!!

This book is set in the year 2028. Man has conquered the moon and is planning on mining the moon for ice to fuel deep space flight. This is a fantastic book that took me to the moon and back, and kept me hooked from the first page!

Dr. Raphael Matteo (Matt to his friends) is a geologist with NASA and is a wonderful character. He has to deal with some serious working conditions; he keeps a cool head, even when faced with a crisis. He is a wonderful and loving husband and father.

Gabriel's Chalice is told from many different characters' points of view which contributes to, in my opinion, one of the best science fiction disaster novels I have read. Although I am not overly religious, and this book is about a prophecy written in the bible, I found myself engrossed in the story. I loved the flow of the story, and I could "see" the scenes playing through my mind, just as if it was a movie or on television.

Frank Ruffolo has written a fantastic tale of biblical proportions that, although it contains references from the bible, is not preachy. However, there is a message of peace and goodwill to all mankind. I highly recommend this book if you love a great science fiction disaster novel that will leave you wanting more. I am now looking forward to reading other books by this author.

The cover of this book was intriguing to me, so I just HAD to read it. And boy am I glad that I did! I loved the storyline and even though it is a work of fiction, some of the events were so well portrayed that I'm actually thinking some of them "might" be plausible as events in the future. I love the combination of "real events" and "spiritual events" that the author weaves throughout this book. This story had me hooked from page one and I can't wait to see what else he comes out with! I recommend this book to everyone who likes sci-fi/space travel and spiritual books :)

In 2028 Dr. Raphael Matteo goes on a mission to the moon but as volcano’s erupt all over earth and fears of another ice age grow, the Dr. is told he may have to cut short his visit and return home earlier than planned. While doing tests on the moons surface, along side diamonds and rust in the moons rocks the Dr. and his crew find an altar containing a Chalice. Suddenly a bright light appears and the men hear a voice telling them he is Gabriel and the ground they are on is consecrated. The men can’t believe their luck and take the chalice back with them to their base. It’s not long before things on Earth worsen and Matt has to return home taking the Chalice with him.

A very unique story and I can honestly say I have never read anything like it before….. After they had taken the chalice it was as if one of the seven seals had been broken and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse were let lose on the Earth! The ash cloud created by the volcano’s was effecting the growth of food (Famine) pneumonia and AID’s grew rampant across the world (Disease) killing millions of people (Death) and finally (Conquest) when the cross shone from the moon towards Earth dispersing the ash cloud.

This book is filled with religion, there are pilgrimages and prophecies and it has quite a complicated plot. The pace is steady and the prose flows okay, if this is your genre of choice you would probably find it quite interesting. It isn’t what I normally read ……… (this will not affect my rating)

I did have one issue with the book and that was the lack of explanation of the initialisms and acronyms, we all know what NASA and SUV stand for, but USGS or CDC etc are not necessarily known by the general world population so I think it would have been nice for the author to have bracketed the meaning immediately after their first use to make it easier for the reader to understand. By the way the cover art is beautiful.

It is August 2028–the last year of humanity’s existence.

Or so it seems. Widespread plagues and natural disasters are happening all over the world, and there is nothing the scientific community can do to stop them. Why they are happening, and what can be done, remain a mystery.

On the moon, a scientific expedition is witness to an astounding sight–one that has miraculous consequences back home. Although there are dissident voices against the seemingly divine interventions that are occurring, these are gradually silenced, as it becomes obvious to all that what is occurring is from God.

Christmas 2028 – does it happen here on Earth? Or is it celebrated in another realm altogether?

I was completely immersed in this book, and there were a lot of reasons. Chiefly, it was because of Mr. Ruffolo’s writing style. He writes in the present tense, and tense has two meanings here. This was, by far, one of the hardest books to put down, and one that I wished could have gone on. It was so here-and-now, so breathless, that I was hooked from page one.

Another reason that I loved it was because it was so pro-family and so rooted in Catholic Christianity. It’s refreshing to see the faith supported in such a beautiful way.

I’ve come away with the need to read more of Mr. Ruffolo’s work. You can add another fan to your list, sir!

*I received this book through a giveaway, but this in no way influences my review.

Although it’s been months since I read Gabriel’s Chalice by Frank A. Ruffolo, I remember it well. Apparently my first review had gotten lost or deleted, and for that, I would ask the author’s forgiveness, as I generally review immediately after finishing the book.
I’ll be the first to admit that sci-fi isn’t one of my favorite genres, but I truly enjoyed this book! With a nod to End-Times events – of which I’m a HUGE fan – this book took me to the moon and back! I thought that the author’s writing style was very easy to follow, and descriptive as well. Although it is very much written from a Catholic point-of-view (I’m not), it was really a pretty good read and I would happily recommend it as such! Though it was set in the distant future, I did have difficulty believing that the President would consult with the Pope and turn something of such great significance over to him. The biggest reason that I say this is because there is less and less influence of God in the U.S., and quite possibly the world. But I definitely understand the liberty that he took with this – I wish it were true as well.
