THE ALMIGHTY $. SOME PEOPLE PRAY FOR IT. SOME PEOPLE PRAY TO IT!
Thirty-four-year-old Klarke Taylor has two children, a pile of bills and creditors who won't leave her alone. And she's had just about enough. So Klarke and her confidants, Breezy and Jeva, resort to devising a shady plan to snag her a man who will make all her monetary dreams come true.
Reo Laroque, is a bestselling author and is right where he always dreamed of being in life. He has it all, including women who come out in droves for this high-ticketed bachelor. But all Reo wants is a virtuous woman to claim as his own. Now Klarke has him in her sights and he soon becomes entangled in a twisted pursuit or love, lust and the almighty dollar.
Sexy and dramatic, The Root of All Evil is a story you will not soon forget!
Meet Klarke Taylor, a mother of two and happily married until Harris, her husband blew up her world with his lies and infidelity. Now, she has a pile of bills and creditors breathing down her back. So she devises a plan along with her two besties, Jeva and Breezy to get her a man to bail her out of her financial situation. Reo Laroque is the man who fits the bill. He’s a bestselling author and is looking for a woman who can be his wife. However, all doesn’t go so smoothly as he is caught up in a twisted case of love, lust and lies.
This story had too much going on. Not only did Klarke have drama with her ex-husband, her boss and her new husband but her besties had issues with their men as well. While there were some interesting moments in this book, I felt the story would have been better served if it had fewer subplots.
However, I perked up toward the end when Reo’s six-month-old daughter drowned in his pool and Klarke confessed to the crime but there was no hard evidence to put her away in jail. But I was left wondering who did it and it was also unclear whether Harris played a part in it or not… then the book ended. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read.
My favorite lines:
My beef has always been with you, Tionne. What’s strange is that I probably wouldn’t have even been mad at you if you were just the other woman. But when you decided to take on the role of my friend—laughing in my face, going out with me, coming over to my house and having me baby-sit your and Harris’s love child, you crossed the line. Otherwise my only beef would have been with Harris. Harris took vows and made a commitment to me, not you. You didn’t owe me shit. Harris did. I’m not like most women who fly off the handle and set out to beat the mistress down. But you, Tionne, you pretended to be my friend. You played me and that hurt.
This was a lot to process but I kept up with it! Real life revealed from 3 different points was eye opening! The sacrifices, grace and forgiveness was always in the mix for each of the ladies! Very, very good read. Very glad I got it.
Joylynn Jossel writes a provokingly, erotic tale while poetically educating the reader on an often misquoted scripture that ends with the words borrowed for the book’s title, “The Root of All Evil”.
Klarke Taylor, twice divorced mother of two, sick of being broke and tired of loving for love’s sake creates the ultimate gold digging plan to snag Reo Laroque. After she baits the wealthy, best selling author, Klarke lets her friends, Breezy and Jeva, in on the secret and the roller coaster ride begins. She studies and learns everything there is to know about Reo, who only confides in and takes advice from his God-fearing father and worldly, writer best friend. Klarke fails to uncover Meka, Reo’s greedy, ex-fiancé, and her plan to lure him and his money back into her life.
Joylynn effortlessly takes the reader into the minds, and hearts of her characters. The plots and sub-plots flow rhythmically, providing just enough back-story, causing one to lust for more. Using the timeless art of letter writing, with a technological twist, Joylynn involves the reader in Klarke and Reo's courtship through flirty, erotic emails. The author also shows the good and bad of Klarke's conscience through her "diva-stating" associates.
The theme of the book is ageless. It gives a “fly on the wall” perspective of the woman’s need to be taken care of financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Sometimes a woman’s need to be loved is superceded by her love of money, “The Root of All Evil”. Who knew that an erotic writer could capture scripture so divinely? The sequel, “When Souls Mate”, is sure to curb the craving for more of Klarke, Reo, Breezy, Jeva, and even that insatiable Meka.
This book was one of the best I have read this year. It had more twists and turns that kept your mouth hitting the floor like WTF. It was so real like or you saw yourself in so many of the twisted plots and schemes or you know some friends who are lying and keeping dangerous secrets as I write this. it was insanely great. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to keep a lie going just asked all the characters in this book. Joylynn Jossel has done it again. Can’t wait to start book #2. A definite must read ladies and gentleman
I stumbled this one at the library, and picked it up because I read the sequel not knowing the order of the story. now because of this book, the beginning of the second book made sense. As always it was a great story.
