After years of considering writing (he thought that writing a book would take FOREVER to write (which he was right), and he also thought that he didn't have the imagination to write books (he was wrong)), Manny decided to finally start writing...And over the coming months, he really started to enjoy the writing process (how each story takes you into it's own world and allows you to escape the realities of life), and as he was writing the 8 Grads From CalTex book, he started getting ideas for other books (which he plans on releasing in 2012 and beyond)...And now as of September 2011, Manny now wonders what took him so long to start writing...
What kind of books does Manny write?? b>
Manny likes to write books & stories that aren't typical (like the books you see on The Best Sellers List & most of the stuff that you see on TV), and that are sometimes Politically Incorrect. Some of the stuff that Manny likes to write about are race, sex, politics, social issues, sports, just to name a few.
What does Manny want you to think about him as an Author??? B>
Manny would like for you to say that after reading one of his books, stories, or anything else that "This is the interesting/fascinating books that I've ever read...And where in the Hell does he come up with these ideas for these Books???"
I don't really know where to begin, I heeded the authors warning of the book having A LOT of profanity and sex, but apparently I wasn't warned enough. . .
Initially the blurb intrigued me, as I have experienced the intertwining of lives from high school. I think mostly we all have, right? I have no problem with sex in books; sex is, after all, a part of life. I also don't have an issue with profanity in the form of drugs or cursing. What bothered me were the unrealistic happenings that constantly occurred within the book and the descriptions of the lots and lots of sex that took place. To me, it seemed that 8 Graduates revolved around sex, never really delving into the deep layers of a character, just skimming the surface.
The best generalization that I can come up with is written pornography. Bad actors, cheezy lines, sex at every opportunity all rolled into a book. I swear I could hear a reverberating 'bow-chicka-bow-wow' as I continued to read. I mean, one character had sex with two or three teachers, one got blackmailed into having sex with a teacher, a threesome with a mother and daughter, two characters lost their virginity at ages twelve and thirteen, one character had sex with a State Senator to try to convince him to join a certain college, and that's not even half of it. . .and I only made it through about 30% of the book.
The format seemed more like a screen write than a book, we were given the exact amount of time the characters partook in various activities. It didn't evoke imagery, it hindered it. There weren't any characters that ignited the emotions that I look for in a book, I was daunted by the constant sex which was described in a crude manner. Very crude.
If 8 Graduates is your thing, then I recommend you have at it. Every singular book is not for every reader, I hope the author finds his targeted audience. I would not recommend this book to the YA populace.
Upon starting this book I had high hopes. The concept was interesting and unique. Setting aside the profanity and graphic sexual scenes, I could see where the author wanted to go with this. You follow 8 individuals as their lives intersect through high school and college. About 75% of the way through my interest lagged. I felt the characters lacked depth. They never seemed to mature, to grow up emotionally. When finished reading I never felt the author gave it a real conclusion. Warning: Explicit sexual content and profanity.
