Gary is a smart young man who for the first time in his life has run into academic trouble in his math class. While Gary is on a mission to get a better grade in math, he will learn along the way that all advice isn't good advice. This book helps children understand that asking for academic help from their parents or teacher is not a negative but can help overcome academic barriers.

The book follows Gary who fails a math class and doesn't know what to do to pass his next class. He consults his friends who have quite the advice. He even lies about his challenge to his mom and teacher . I loved the lessons the book detailed. Every parent and educator should read this book and encourage the little ones to do the same . I loved it for the lesson and the illustrations.
Gary has a problem: he can’t get an A on his math tests. He’s been having trouble understanding the content but is too shy to ask the adults in his life for help. Instead, he turns to his friends, and while they have good intentions, their advice isn’t exactly the most helpful. Can Gary summon up the courage to open up about his struggles and secure his A?
Even though this picture book is aimed at children, I think we can all take its lesson to heart: it’s okay to ask for help. Gary’s hesitance to ask for help is unfortunately something a lot of people can relate to, which is why books that introduce children to the importance of being vulnerable and trusting your loved ones are so important! Boys especially are often taught to suppress their emotions, and while that’s not explicitly a theme of this book, it’s refreshing to see a boy grappling with his feelings and learning to ask others for help. While I love the message of this story, I couldn’t ignore the numerous grammatical issues in the story, particularly the lack of much-needed commas. Since this book centers around academics, it would’ve been prudent for the author to consider how improper grammar might negatively impact children learning to read and write from picture books like his. It detracts from an otherwise wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this sweet little book. I like the story and the illustrations and what it's trying to help kids do. The only thing I found a bit confusing was the age group that was targeted. It seemed a bit harder of a read for the age group that the illustrations gave me the impression for which I imagined was between about first to Third grade. Don't seem to fit 3rd grade students well enough it still seemed a bit long for that style. I still thought it was really good I don't have any complaints about it I just wasn't sure which of my nieces or nephews would best enjoy this book. The illustrations appeal to the younger ones but the words on the page even with me reading out loud to them weren't as engaging. Maybe had a bit more rhyme to it or something like that it would have helped with my younger ones. But still great book recommend it!
Gary was having troubles in his math class. Making terrible grades. After failing, he asked friends what he could do. With mixed advise nothing helped until a wise friend told him how a tutor could help. Gary learns asking an adult for help on a subject that he was able to learn and accomplish. Maybe you have a student that has trouble getting the grade. This book will encourage them on the next step to make a positive impact. Doing well in school helps with a child mental well being and being a well rounded adult.
A special thank you to Brian Edwards and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

The illustrations are colorful and lively, adding an extra layer of charm to the story. This book is a valuable addition to any child's library, providing a positive message of resilience and the importance of asking for help.
This inspirational children's book is about a young boy Gary, who is doing well on his math test. He gets advice from friends but that doesn't work. Will Gary get the advice he needs to pass his next math test? The illustrations are bright, detailed, and colorful. The lesson is don't be afraid to ask for help when you are struggling in school. Preserveance is key. I recommend this book to school-age young boys and girls. I give this book four stars
A wonderful children's book that follows the story of a smart young boy who is facing academic challenges in his math class for the first time in his life. In his quest to get a better grade, Gary learns an important lesson about the value of seeking academic help from his parents or teacher. This book aims to teach children that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a valuable tool for overcoming academic barriers.
#GaryGetstheGrade #BrianEdwards #NetGalley This well-written and engaging children's book promotes important values and can inspire young readers to strive for success in their academic pursuits. It teaches children, in a simple and straightforward way, the importance of seeking help from the right sources and being discerning about the advice they receive.
My library kid’s group all related to Gary. Test can be really hard and sometimes students have challenges with their test. Gary and his friends and family really were helpful.
A good book to motivate children to ask for help in the right place, and seek academic support when they need it. Lovely illustrations, Gary’s story is heartwarming and has a great moral.
