Llamas and Alpacas: A Guide to Management

Rate this book
Talks about llamas and alpacas. This book tells how - as well as being adorable animals with a thick, warm fleece - llamas and alpacas are also intelligent, discerning, curious and sociable. In addition, they are docile, gentle and easily trained. They require little supplementary feed, live outside, and are generally hardy, healthy and happy.

One of the more useful overseas books on alpacas. Their care is explained in a straightforward and clear manner with many useful pictures. Having recently purchased alpacas I’ve been reading a few alpaca books and this was one of the better ones albeit was heavily focused on the northern hemisphere.

This book is a must for camelid owners, especially if you're a newbie. Easily understandable and informative, with medical advice, behavioral examples, and information on fibre etc. It also has a very handy diagram showing the different and proper weights for alpacas/llamas to keep you on track - those fluffy alpacas hide their weight well! Not a book if you just want pictures of cute, cuddly creatures - although it does have some lovely photos too - a book for those interested in the upkeep of alpacas or llamas. P.S: This also clears up the dreaded 'Do they spit?' question, and yes, they really are so soft and fluffy...

Again, my weird obsession enters my reading life. This one was not as useful, but more in-depth, than the others. V. British.
