This book takes you on on the road with Canned Heat from the beginning to present. From the heights of the Woodstock to the days of biker bars. From the tragedy of Alan “BLIND OWL’’ Wilson, Bob ‘’THE BEAR’’ HIte and Henry “SUNFLOWER” Vestine. It follows their days of fame through the days of tragedy but one thing is a constant their love of each other and the Blues.
An excellent read that allows one to gain insight to a band that had it all, lost it all and has thankfully ended up somewhere in the middle. It was good not only to learn about the author but about Alan Wilson and “The Bear” two figures in music that in their own right deserve more attention. Along with Adolfo de la Parra for not only his drumming but for having the dogged persistence to keep a band and a dream alive.
Pleasantly and painfully honest. Members of the band may have past too young and other artists may come and go, but the blues will live on. Thanks to Canned Heat and Fito never forgetting his brothers, the music continues on and as great as ever. One of the best stories I have ever read having to do with the music world. I highly recommend this book. It has it all. Peace and love.
I gave 5 stars it's great! I am fortunate enough to have heard the band and met some of the members.
Adolfo “Fito” de la Parra is the keeper of the Canned Heat flame. This is a true rock and roll story and the best “Behind the Music” that VH1 never produced.
