Henry Enfield Roscoe

Sir Henry E. Roscoe (1833-1915) is one of the foremost of English chemists. In Heidelberg he worked under Robert Bunsen and together with the famous German he laid the foundations of comparative photochemistry. Roscoe is also known for his study and analysis of vanadium compounds and his isolation of the metal. In 1857 he became professor at Owens College, Manchester, where he remained for thirty years.
