Summary: This nonfiction book teaches about Mars. It talks about where it is in the order of the solar system. We learn what the surface is like, the size, as well as the air and weather of Mars. The reader is informed of the different trips and exploration of Mars. Finally the author provides a glossary and different sources to learn more about the planet Mars. Evaluation: I enjoyed this book. I thought it was age level appropriate and informative. The author did a good job about providing facts and pictures as references for the reader. The sentences of the book are simple, but they are useful when it comes to providing information about the planet. Teaching Idea: This could be used when discussing the solar system. It could be used in stations, as an independent read, as research, or as a read aloud. This book is part of a series that includes books about every planet, so it could be used throughout a lesson or just on a specific day.
This book taught me a lot of facts about Mars. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and is also called the red planet. Mars surface is like a dessert and has huge volcanoes. The air on Mars is thin and cold and people would not be able to breathe the air. A trip to mars takes about 6 months.
07/09: The boys so enjoy this series on the planets. There is also a link to "Fact Hound" in the back which offers views of our solar system and the planets orbiting around the sun, etc.
