Just been diagnosed with lupus. Everyday seems to just get worse as i not only have lupus but I have cardiac lupus, cns lupus (neurological), lupus nephritis while also suffering from the common lupus symptoms and other autoimmune diseases. It’s been a hard journey where specialists kept scratching their heads looking at my labs, symptoms, MRIs, lumbar puncture results, etc. I’ve been poked around, sedated and had several intrusive procedures and tests every week since 4 months. I have been in the hospital more times in 4 months that I have been in my entire life. It’s when I read that book that I myself took the 10 different specialists on my case on the right path to find answers. My current journey has shown me how important it is to educate yourself and advocate for yourself. You know your body more than anyone on this planet and don’t let anybody brush you off when you know something is wrong. I was told that without my diagnosis and the proper treatment I would be currently dying or close to death. I’ve felt so sick that many days in the last few months i have been convinced that I will go to bed and never wake up. It’s my own research and this book that gave me the right tools to ask for the proper tests. I would say that I’m the one who saved my life not doctors. Because I never gave up and never let any of them not listen. I am a rarity when it comes to lupus. I’m very unlucky to have all of these systems eaten by this diseases all at the same time and for the rest of my life. But I’m lucky that I have the character and rigorous personality I have. Read as much as you can about your condition and don’t let anybody tell you you’re crazy. It might save your life. All of this changed my life. Not only is there damage that can’t be undone in my body but I also know I’ll have to live with all of these flare ups for the rest of my life, but this book gave me the tools to express myself and know when to go right away to the emergency. It showed me what to look for what to tell the doctors. It also gave me a new goal in life. This journey has taken so much away from me. But it also gave me so much. It gave me patience, confidence, courage and a new purpose. It slowed me down now I see everything differently. I’m in no rush anymore, I’m not running after new milestones, but ironically will probably die at a younger age than what I expected. I’m at peace. More than I’ve ever been in my life. Because now I know I can count on myself all the way. I know I’m my best advocate and I don’t need anybody. I have this book among other resources to thank for that.
