All too often we only hear the official accounts of the most public of events that occurred in the lives of great personalities. Here is a unique collection of stories revealing some of the most fascinating & bizarre facts about the people themselves. The pictures that emerge are of the real people & the actual events of their lives. They include John Jacob Astor, John Sebastian Bach, Isaac DIsraeli, Charles Darwin, Catherine De Medici, Daniel Defoe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ferdinand Magellan, Karl Marx, Sir Isaac Newton, Thomas Paine, St. Catherine of Siena, Robert Stevenson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Cornelius Vanderbilt, & James Whistler.
Full of interesting facts but; It would have been helpful if each chapter heading included the birth & death date of the person. It took a few paragraphs to discover the era/century into which that person was born. Most of the people mentioned were unknown to me. Possibly costs prohibited the inclusion of illustrations in the book so I often consulted online images to get an overall understanding of the person. I found the author’s research quite detailed which should be appreciated.
