When Sharla Banks lost her husband and two kids to a car accident on the interstate seven years ago—as Sharla volunteered at church—she thought God had finished finding ways to torment her. But she was wrong. Now her archaeologist brother, Damien, is missing and suspected of killing the entire crew on his latest excavation near Jerusalem. When she receives a coded letter from Damien asking for help, Sharla begins a race against time to find him before the police do. But it’s not just the police who want to find Damien. A secret society called The Keepers is also after him, and they’ll do anything to prevent him from revealing the deadly secret he dug up—a secret which solves a 3,400-year-old mystery—and may just start the apocalypse.
"If the Dead Rise" is about a woman named Sharla, who’s suffered such terrible loss she’s turned her back on her faith and curses God. When her archeologist brother goes missing and is wanted for murder in Jerusalem, she receives a cryptic message from him that takes her to the Holy Land to find him. Mossad agents, religious zealots, and a young boy who stumbles upon an ancient cave with biblical ties are all woven into the narrative. And, of course, zombies. It’s a fun novel. I count myself fortunate to regularly eat sushi with its author.
