This is a biography written 100 years after the fact about a man who was well known in certain circles but hardly famous. Ms. Spring writes concisely, without embellishment, jumping from newspaper article to county record to advertisement to the personal journal of someone who once met the man - but manages to do so clearly and economically piecing together a narrative as she might assemble a mosaic. The result isn't groundbreaking but a fun read rife with authenticity.
