Being relocated to a small-town PD in Colorado was the last thing I needed. Being assigned to babysit the captain's daughter didn't help either. She's quirky, young, and unfortunately, the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Cap only has one rule. Keep my hands to myself. Turns out to be harder than it looks. Now I live in her house, and at night I hear her cries. She's haunted by her dreams just like I'm haunted by my past. She may be crazy, or she may be the only key to unlocking the dark secrets of this town. The clock is ticking, and the closer we get, the more dangerous it becomes. We both heard the captain's warning loud and clear......too bad neither of us listened.
Book 1 of the Timber Creek Series. Series will contain interconnected standalones.
I love a small-town romance and to make it even better it is a dual POV book.
In this book you meet the people of Timber Creek through the eyes of Camilla, a funny loving and spunk female, who is known to some as the town "crazy". She is the forbidden captain's daughter, who is helping the department on a missing persons case.
Jace is headed to Timber Creek as a temporary assignment, after something bad happened to him and his partner. Jace is a grumpy detective that is hiding from his feelings. Jace is assigned to Cami as her personal bodyguard while working on a case involving the missing woman.
Cami has dreams that are related to the case and have little clues in them to help her find things belong to the victims. Jace and Cami are forced to live together because the rental that Jace was staying at flooded, during this time Cami starts to piece together everything in multiple missing woman cases from the town.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat and will make you laugh and cry, but warning you will want to finish this book in one sitting.
I can't wait to see what happens in Timber Creek next.
Thank you S.J. for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC and I am willingly leaving this review.
This book should come with the following warning...
WARNING!! Do not start reading this book at bedtime. It could lead to a sleepless night, but it is well worth it.
I couldn't put this book down. Jace and Camille are great characters, and the story just flowed, and I had no idea I had read the entire book in 4 hours. This is my first book by S.J. Chaynie, and it definitely won't be my last.
3.5 🌟 Wasn't a bad book, I was just bored through a lot of it. There were a few chapters that had me hooked, which is what kept it at 3.5 stars. I'll probably continue this series, though.
Whispers on Timber Creek, Timber Creek book 1 by S.J. Chaynie I received this book from the authors for an honest review. I met this author after I saw a TikTok of hers about a different series. I am so thankful she has allowed me to read that series and is giving me her new series to read as well. This is a great series starter with some amazing characters we meet. I admit as much as I LOVED the main H/h in this book, book 2’s couple has me clawing to read their story. I mean I messaged the author to say NOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW. She even agreed with me about their story being a great read to come. Ok so this series starts with Jace in the shrink’s office not wanting to admit how he is feeling about the death of his partner and best friend. He is reassigned to a small town for 3 months to get his stuff together essentially. He goes to the town and immediately sees Camille. He gets the official “Hands off” by her dad…ya know…his new boss the Captain of the force. Unfortunately, circumstances will force them to be thrown together 24/7 which makes hands off near impossible. Camille is having a hard time. She knows what people think of her and she is a broken women thanks to her ex-boyfriend, Stuart. She is attracted to the new detective until he talks. Then his mouth makes her remember what a jerk he is. LOL This story has a LOT of chemistry. The slow burn of Jace and Camille is HAWT. LAWD, when they finally crash and combust, loooook out!!! The side story of the missing girls is a low theme in the story until its not. Then we are running to figure out who, what, and why of what is happening. I admit I was so wrapped up in the Jace and Cami when I realized what was happening, I was like RUN FASTER!!! Get going!!!!! But Easton and Ellie….I cannot wait!!
I enjoyed the story, but....not once but twice FMC **with no police/defensive training** ran off to catch a killer unarmed, alone, without telling anyone. She ended up nearly dying both times, and her family didn't even lecture her about how dangerous it was. They told her she was BRAVE and that they loved her. ****Slow Blink*** Excuse me, that was extremely reckless and dangerous, and dont ever do that to us again. **Would have been the proper response.**
Anyways, to start off, I almost DNFd at her being a psychic. I decided fuck it lets see where it goes. Well, it didn't really go anywhere. The book had a lot of filler scenes, time jumps, and surface level police work. They interviewed one lady who came to them, but thats all.
Now that I am writing this review, Im really let down by the story, lol. She only had a couple of conversations with Jace about her dreams. She kept everything else to herself because she wanted to be sure she had it right first. The town just made this big thing about her abilities, and it was a complete letdown.
Second, the birthday bar scene. Jace spent all night eye fucking FMC but lets some bimbo press all over him. Of course, FMC gets jealous and leaves with one of his co-workers .**some playboy douche bag, who is taking bets on when he will bang her** She was gonna bang some guy she doesn't like out of jealousy? It honestly did not fit her personality. Instead, Jace follows her out and halls her from his truck, kicking and screaming. . She ended up banging Jace that night instead. **eyeroll** Mind you, he had no intentions of leaving with other chick. Why her friends didnt stop her IDK. They didn't even try. I was kinda upset his co-worker didn't confront him about it later.
Last thing...I felt like his partners widow deserved more closure. It was his whole reason for going to Timber Creek, and it was a lack luster tie-off. ***Maybe a heartfelt conversation where she tells him it wasn't his fault. That sorta thing. Him playing with her son something like that. ***
This is my first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed it. It had a slow burn, angst and some mystery and drama. Cami is the town weird person because she has had dreams of several women who went missing her town, it start when she was 16 after her month passed. But her police chief father, cop brother and the whole small town don't exactly believe her dreams to be real resulting her being in therapy since she was 16. Just getting out of a bad relationship she takes over her grandfather's cabin business which she loves. She is funny and has a quick wit. Jace is sent to the small town because he was involved in a shooting and lost someone close to him. He is sent to the small town for a few months to work just until his pd chief will let him back to detective work and off desk duty. It was a good read and I didn't see the ending coming in regards to what happened to these missing women and how it involved Cami. I really like Cami, Jace was a jerk for a big portion of the book. I wish we would have see more healing with Jace's trauma. I loved the supporting characters and will definitely read more in this series and look at this author's other books.
Book Review: Whisper of Timber Creek by SJ Chaynie
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
I adored this read! It was a sweet yet suspenseful, grumpy x sunshine, boss’s daughter romance with a “who done it” story line! It was a quick read once I had the time to actually sit down and get into it, and I love Chaynie’s writing style! The characters were lovable and real, the problems and emotions they faced were real life issues and the suspenseful story line unfortunately is something that happens on a daily basis. I would have liked a little more backstory from the main characters and that’s the only reason I gave it four stars, but I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a romance/thriller-ish read! Book two, Confessions of Timber Creek comes out Sept 29th and I’m so excited to continue this series!!
Absolutely loved this book and cant wait for the next one!!! I was up all night reading this one. Cami and her spunk was on point. Jace and his trying to just do what he needs to get back to his old life after a horrible loss..
Of course he didn't want to be a glorified babysitter to the chiefs daughter. But after being sent on his "vacation" he doesn't really get a choice if he wants his release papers to go back home.
I cant wait to see the next book of Timber Creek Series!!!
I thought this book had so much potential but then it just… ended. Where was the plot?? it was just getting started then it was over. Felt like I missed a whole part of the book. And I felt like it went from “hate” to In love in a blink of an eye- which is not my thing. But it was quick and I finished it in a day which is nice.
I really enjoyed this book and thought it was great. I loved the characters and the story flowed along very well and kept my attention with the twists along the way. This is a great grumpy/sunshine book and I can't wait to read more by S.J. Chaynie in the near future!
I love this town and it’s people. I loved watching the characters develop and I loved watching the story build. The dynamic between the two main characters was amazing. I cannot wait to see what happens in Timber Creek next.
This was my first SJ Chaynie book and it won’t be my last!! Small town romance, forced proximity, drama, mystery and a dash of spice!! This book had it all. Great plot and story line with a twist at the end you don’t see coming! I look forward to the 2nd book!!
This grumpy sunshine was outstanding. The characters were dynamic and felt fully developed, staying true to their characters in every situation. The chemistry was impeccable and the charming small town atmosphere felt like home. Loved this.
This book is very heavy on characters and not very plot driven. It has a insta love which I’m not really into. Also I read on ku and it needs some editing. All in all I enjoyed getting to know the crew and look forward to the next book in the series.
IN LOVE! I did not want to put this book down! I couldn't get enough. Jace and Camilles love story is one I'll never forget. 💜 This is one story I wish I could read all over again for the 1st time.
This book was just everything!!! I loved Jace’s and Camilles’s story! It was beautifully written and it will definetly be a book a reread! I just love this author!!! Can’t wait to read more by her!
Great Read! This is my second book by this author and I'm onto my 3rd! Love how the pages just grab you, like wait... I need to know what's next.. I can sleep later!! 🤣
I cant believe the ending!!!! Detective gets put on leave in a small town. Girls go missing and he has to watch over the sheriffs daughter. He falls for her and then she gets abducted. I can’t believe the therapist seduced her when she was his patient! Now he’s killing women that remind him of her!

This book was hands down one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. From the character development to plot and steamy scenes there is such an amazing balance. I instantly fell in love with the characters and the story line. It was so hard to put it down. 1000% recommend this book!!!! 1000% recommend this author , pure talent.
This was my introduction to SJ Chaynie. And I freaking LOVED this book. Small town romance with a twist of mystery. First book I’ve read like this (not saying they aren’t out there but my first). And she did such a phenomenal job.
So we have Camille. She is a small town girl in Timber Creek. The police captain’s daughter. Brother in law enforcement too. Also has a twin and another sister living in California. Camille owns and manages some cabins in the area and just loves her life.
Then there is Jace. He’s a detective he was recently put on desk duty after being injured in the line of duty and loss of his partner. He’s trying to get back to the field but it’s not happening like he wants. His boss tells Jace to go stay his next three months in Timber Creek to rest. And while he’s there help out at their PD. Desk duty still of course.
Camille is sassy and independent. Jace is stubborn and has no intentions of getting into a relationship. But when these two meet, it’s explosive. Both trying to pretend its’s nothing. When Jace’s rental has issues, the captain recommends one of Camille’s rentals, which are fully booked. So the next best thing, her spare bedroom. Forced proximity 🙌🏼
But also, there’s a potential serial killer taking women in the town. Most recently, a woman named Meredith. Camille has dreams where she sees things. They decide to bring her in to see if she can help, and Jace is placed on bodyguard duty. Neither of them happy about it. But things aren’t always as they appear, and this killer may be a lot closer than anyone realized.
These background characters!!! I loved them sooo much. They just added so much to the story. And also clearly have their own going on. I’m looking forward to reading theirs. By far, my favorite was Tilly, Camille’s twin. There was vulnerability in her character but also sass.
I highly recommend this book. It’s an easy read and I promise you won’t want to put it down.
This was such a great book to read. Thank you S.J for letting me ARC read this book. I really totally on pins and needles with this book. I was here for the twist and turns and this book and me on stop reading because I need to know what happen. I was totally shock for what happen. I was like omg did not see that coming. Camille and Jace characters were so well written and I was mad at times with them for fighting their feelings. This for sure is a must read.
