Beginner's Guide to Machine Embroidery

Rate this book
Pamela Watts explores all the techniques with infectious enthusiasm, showing how to work the stitches, adjust tension, layer fabrics, develop surfaces, build up texture, create lacy effects with water soluble fabric and more. Step-by-step photographs accompany a series of projects which are designed to improve skills and the book is packed with expert advice on all aspects of machine embroidery. A final section takes you beyond fabrics into using metal, mesh, handmade paper and more. Vibrant and exciting designs can be created easily using these materials. The effect is stunning when they are combined with soft and transparent fabrics, and lustrous threads.

Well done slim volume exploring the basic of machine embroidery/embellishment - stitches, use of various feet, free motion stitching. Also some exploration of painting and layering.

This book takes you through the seeming complexities of machine embroidery, through the bewildering world of threads, sewing machine feet and surfaces with step by step projects. It enables the reader to learn how to play and create with the full creative potential of the most ordinary sewing machine

There are really cool mixed-media techniques in here - not just straight embroidery!
