There’s a lot of Czechish repetition, only softer, making it dreamlike. The novel is more dreamlike than lyrical, but not too dreamlike. And the dreamishness is appropriate, for the novel is about a Slovenian woman who has moved to France, but goes home to the house her father has left her, although he knows she did not want the house. But it too is lovely, and she falls in love with it, in an odd manner, as she falls in love with a local man, in an equally odd manner. OK, it's hard to describe what is special about this novel, but it is.
