I was hooked from the very first sentence. “Even the sun gave up on Ellen, slipping toward the roof tops of the souvenir shops and sending long shadows over the cobblestone sidewalks.” From that first sentence I was invested in Ellen’s journey. Every character was believable - Ellen, Welglen, Josh, Ashamoor (my favorite newly hatched dragon), and more. Multiple journeys that converge in unexpected ways.
Ellen, a storyteller/writer, who hangs out at a local coffee/brew tavern for inspiration to complete her long overdue story about a family of dragons. In her mind, she dreams of defending the little guy, standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. “I like to think my inner dragon has emerged.” In real life, she is not quite so confident. “My alter ego can be a little embarrassing, but she means well.” I can relate.
Her confidence is boosted by the arrival of a custom-made sword – a sword straight out of her imagination and dreams – a sword that plays an important role in the rest of Ellen’s journey. So, I’ll not spoil the fun....
What if Ellen’s dragon story was more than a mere figment of her imagination?
This is a story about an unsuspecting hero. Who will stand up to protect the young and the innocent? What happens when the “typical” strong leader can no longer lead? Will young Ellen be the one to step up? Will she persevere when her friends seemingly let her down?
I did not want this book to end. I’m ready for parts 2 and 3 and...! What happened to the other adult dragons? What about Ashamoor’s siblings?
Seriously phenomenal writing and riveting storyline. I could see the movie in my head as I read each chapter. THAT’s when I know it’s a novel worth my time!
I loved this book! Tami Casias is an excellent writer and story teller. Ellen is such a relatable character and I love the way the story weaves around the key players to tie them all together. I also enjoy the fact that it takes place in my backyard! I am a fan of dragon stories, and there are many out there, but this one stands out as different! It holds your interest, has several twists and turns, and tells a complete story of how the dragons in this story are different from those in other books I've read.
I see many sequels to this story line and hope Tami can too! Its way too soon to let them go. The book alludes to at least 1, but I can see many more in her future!!
The delight I felt in meeting these characters, especially the adorable dragons, was fraught with tension and sprinkled with humor, from start to finish. Welglen's flights are beautiful and ethereal, while Ellen's adventures on the ground are gritty and exciting. The story builds to a climax the reader won't be able to put down, until sadly, they must, at the end. I hope there are more Dragon adventures in the future.
