Nothing On but the Radio by Jodi Lynn Copeland Contemporary Romance - May 31st, 2011 3 ½ stars
Taryn had the hots for Brian. But after a short bout of sex where she is left supremely unsatisfied things quickly change between them. Brian defensively puts Taryn down because he ‘peaked’ too soon. His hurtful words damaged Taryn’s self confidence especially in her musical abilities. Taryn’s longs to be a prominent songwriter.
It is five years later and Taryn still dreams of pursuing a successful career as a songwriter and plans to attend the Sugarfoot Island songwriting conference. But to her dismay, Brian is a big sponsor and the chemistry between them is too hot to deny even though any relationship between attendees and sponsor/ judges is strictly forbidden. When Brian points out that her music lacks passion, she asks him to show her that passion so she can feed it into her music. And that is when things get wild and out of control. Will Taryn succumb to his charms again or will Brian blow his second chance? And what will happen if their hidden romance prevents Taryn’s dreams of success?
This was a solid romance that is well constructed. It flows smoothly and has plenty of sexy scenes to keep you turning the pages. However, the main problem for me is I never could warm up to Brian. I think this is because I liked the heroine so much I never quite thought he was good enough for her. A man who would hurt a woman because of his damaged ego isn’t really hero material for me. I agree that he is very sexy but I wanted someone better for Taryn. The author does a fantastic time of creating a heroine that you really want to root for but I only wish Taryn had found another guy instead of Brian even if their chemistry was off the charts hot. The main issue is that Brian doesn’t like that Taryn likes to be dominant in bed and seems to use it against her. But what is really going on is she turns him on so much he can’t help himself from getting off before he can give her a climax. This does get resolved later in the story but I still felt a bit unsatisfied with Brian’s less mature character. But I did like how he eventually changed his attitude and realized how good Taryn was in the last third of the story.
Readers who love hot romance will enjoy the strong pacing and the racy sex scenes but I couldn’t get over not quite liking the hero.

Sometimes you get a second third fourth chance to set things right. Brian feels bad for spouting his ego saving lies and the way he treated Taryn at the end of their last encounter. He’s all about providing that it wasn’t performance anxiety and that he can go the distance with Taryn if she would not be such an aggressive sexual control freak and she can submit to him this time around.
This was a good story with some funny moments especially Taryn and her zingers.
Favorite lines…
“I’ll have you know ice cream contains calcium, an essential part of the food pyramid.”
“You can’t make me do anything. You suck at sex.”
“Yeah, well, I’m a woman and that gives me two prerogatives. One, to change my mind, and, two, to roar.”
Say it with me..... "AWWWWWW!" That was sweet. Really sweet. And hot. There was definitely some major chemistry between the two plus some smoking sex. My favorite part had to be the jacuzzi... or really, I guess it was their last night there. You know more or less how it's going to turn out, and there was an HEA. Taryn cracked me up with her Speedy Gonzalez references. Poor Brian, lol. I'm surprised she didn't recognize the problem -- she fired him up too much! On the other hand, Taryn bugged me a bit with how she'd blame him for every little thing and not take responsibility for her own part in it. By the end, she seemed to have started realizing that her actions had something to do with things, too. A fun story.
Fiery hot passion, and fiery hot attitude- this book is full of wit, drama, and sexy love scenes. The love/hate relationship between Taryn and Brian keep them coming back for more after each frustrating encounter. But sometimes it's just a little too over the top. Taryn wants to make it in the songwriting business, and the conflict comes from a past encounter between Brian and her years back. Sometimes, they both drove me crazy and I wanted to shake them, but overall the story was enjoyable, engaging, and hot. I love books that have themes dealing with aspiring musicians, even songwriters, so this book grabbed my attention just from that aspect alone.
