Since its publication in 1918 by William J. Strunk and E.B. White, The Elements of Style has been a widely-used guide for writing in American English. However, Nicole Foster's How To Write In Plain English is now gaining popularity and may soon replace The Elements of Style as a required reading in schools. While Strunk's original book was only 43 pages, How To Write In Plain English is longer at 136 pages, but still shorter than most English 101 textbooks. It may not completely replace the classic, but it makes for a great companion book.

Regardless of your profession or writing style, this book is a must-have for anyone looking to improve their writing and communication skills. Businesspeople, students, bloggers, and freelance writers alike can benefit from the tips and guidance provided in this book. It's a valuable addition to any reference bookshelf, even for experienced writers who may still learn something new. As someone who has been writing for over fifty years, I can personally attest to the helpfulness of How To Write In Plain English.

Insightful book!

This is a practical guide to effective communication.It includes examples that demonstrate the difference between good and bad documents you've already written. It also suggests ways to make your writing clear, helpful and understandable.

Along the way, you'll learn about some of the rules of plain English grammar and sentence structure.

If you equip yourself with the knowledge of plain English in this book, you can practice the skills you've gained until you are confident.

I bought this book out of curiosity. Much of what was said I already knew, but other points served as a refresher; for that reason, I give this book 3 instead of 2 stars. Although this book isn’t for me, I see it functioning as a supplementary book for native English speakers and especially important for L2 speakers of English.
