What do you think?

Living Next Door to Alice
Tired? Grumpy? Feeling insecure? Then what you really need to feel better about yourself is—a supermodel coming to live next door. Tanya knows that in life there will be depressingly beautiful super-beings crawling around somewhere. But why do they have to become her neighbor? The problem is, stunning newcomer Alice (very famous in Japan) seems to have taken firmly against Tanya. Which means that when Tanya gets her first assignment in her dream job as a stylist, she's horrified to be working with Alice. But not as horrified as she would be if she knew what Alice really had in store for her.

This book was just Okay.
I actually would have given the book only one star, but the Alice parts were great and the reader got a good insight into Alice's personality.
At the outside she was a bitch, but at the inside very vulnerable and because of the bad stuff that happened to her I actually wished her luck and had sympathy for her.
The Tanya parts were not bad either (the book is from both of their point of view- Tanya's and Alice's), but I did not really care what happened to the characters (except for Alice) and I also could not feel any sparkle between Tanya and her boyfriend. I also did not bother whether Tanya and her boyfriend stayed together or not, which is really bad, because I love happy endings and all that.
But it was really that bad written that I did not care!
If the book were all about Alice (and in that way written and all as it is here) I would have loved it and very probably rated it with four stars at least.

Another author find from the About Town short stories, this time from the Irish one. I have to say, not so good. The characters were pretty one dimensional and the writer used the same expressions over and over again, so thumbs down for writer creativity. Especially overused was the phrase "going down a treat" when eating or drinking. It was used at least 10 times. It wasn't so bad that I put it down without finishing, but not great enough to pursue other Mackle titles.

It wasn't baaaaad, but I don't think I'd really have spent much time on it.. The storyline wasn't that bad but it could have been better, I guess..
Plus, I couldn't stand how (something) always "went down a treat". Gosh, I get it!!! It's delicious, yummy, TASTY!!! Just change a phrase!
