Nurses at the Trenches: Letters Home from a World War 1 Nurse

Written from the French Front by a brave Red Cross nurse, these home letters were hurriedly penned amidst the incessant roar of mighty guns and surrounded by the wounded and the dying. Shivering at times with cold, and wearied almost to the point of exhaustion from working every day from 5.30am to 9pm, they give a fascinating glimpse into the life of a nurse at war.

A very quick read (for research purposes) consisting of unedited letters home from a nurse at the front during World War 1. Gives great insight into the mindset of the time. Given all the brutality of WW1, and seeing the worst of what war can do to people, she writes home with an understated calm typical of that era. Occasionally the reader can see the brutality, difficult nursing conditions, and exhaustion between her lines.
