Ancient dinosaurs lived over 65 million years ago, but they have fascinated human beings since the first fossil discovery. In this book, science expert and television celebrity Bill Nye the Science Guy tells us how dinosaurs become fossils, how they must have behaved, and why we call their descendants “birds.” Featuring over thirty different species of dinosaurs, each chapter has an easy-to-follow experiment that readers can do at home.
Not to be confused with 19th century American humorist Bill Nye
William Sanford "Bill" Nye, popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science educator, comedian, television presenter, actor, writer, scientist, and former mechanical engineer, best known in popular media as a science educator.
“Bill Nye the Science Guy’s Great Big Dinosaur Dig” is a nonfiction book on dinosaurs. You can facts not only about different types of dinosaurs, but also about the earth during the dinosaur times. It is written as if Bill Nye is talking directly to the reader and he uses a great deal of humor without it over powering the information. An interesting feature of this book is at the end of each chapter there is a Try This page which is an experiment that you can try at home relating to dinosaurs. This book has a table of contents and an index in the back, listing ancient dinosaur names and quick facts about each. There are illustrations that are life like and their also comical pictures of the dinosaurs. There is a ton on text features in this book including captions and a Check it Out box, which is basically a vocabulary check. I definitely would recommend this book for primary age 8 and ages 8-10 (I). Not only is the information the primary purpose of this book, it is also interesting. This book talks a lot more about the time of dinosaurs rather than just listing quick facts like an Encyclopedia. It goes into details about not only the appearance and names of dinosaurs, but also about their habitat, behavior, and ponders the question, “What happened to the dinosaurs?”
