"An Elegy for Melusine" by Deborah Cooke. A prequel to the Dragonfate series.

This is a novella based on a French fairy tale (that's what the intro in the novella says). The reader is told that Melusine is going to be one of the characters in the upcoming Dragonfate series. The main characters are Melusine and Raymond.

It's a cautionary tale about making deals, sticking to them, and falling in love. Melusine is half human and half fey and she wants to stay in the fey world but she's cursed to transform into a half-dragon type creature one day a week. She believes if she can make a human fall in love with her and prove she can be loyal and trusted, the curse will be broken.

The story is not really romantic and is actually quite sad. Even though Melusine and Raymond have feelings for each other, their life together doesn't go exactly as they expected it.

It will be very interesting to see how the character of Melusine is integrated into the new series.
