Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead(though she will deny to her children that it ever happened).
From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.
Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.
Mostly because the actual conversation between characters didn't really make sense. Plus the plot twist is a bit.. weird, to be honest. It's not my first Ann Mayburn, so I'm surprised I can't finished this book. Plus the princess, Lalita, she's kind of a bitch. And annoying too.
Overall, as much as the basic idea intrigued me, this book is totally not my cup of tea.
Ever wonder what it would be like to be hypnotized and be aroused by a trigger word? Want to be be shared by two sexy hot men? What if that included being a fugitive on the run? In The Bodyguards' Princess, there is all this and a bit more. This was a hot little menage. The two bodyguards - Kent and Asher are HOT. Picturing them together had me humming in pleasure. The sex was pretty sweet and the BDSM elements were light and kinky. SUGARKINK!
Lalita is the little princess who is a diplomat's daughter. She's wrongly framed as a terrorist. Her bodyguards, ex-marines Kent and Asher are there to protect her. Using old contacts they help unravel the plot and keep her safe. Amusingly enough, the villains have conditioned her to be a bitch in heat through trigger words. I'm thinking, wow. I want to be trained to a trigger word!
The BDSM scenes were fun and believable. The jealousy the two men felt as they fought over Lalita also gave it a more realistic touch. Lalita is not a perfect daughter. She is a little princess with her bratty ways. I personally believe she needs to be spanked big time. She is young so I guess she can be forgiven for her lack of maturity at times.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy menage with some sweet sugarkink.
Hypnosis & trigger words… interesting, very interesting. I've never put much stock in hypnosis but then again I've never attempted it either so... there is that.
Likes:
■ The concept of a trigger word that when uttered arouses one to an almost painful state. Oh my… *fans self* ■ There's quite a bit of intrigue & extremist political ideology interwoven within a BDSM atmosphere that involves cross dressing & puppy play. All of which added excitement to the read.
Dislikes:
■ Lalita's kind of a pill. Sometimes, not always but I can definitively say that she's not one of my favorite protagonists. ■ The guys (Kent & Asher) become possessive & competitive over her one minute then the next .
Ok I was majorily pissed when I was reading and think this book is ok but not great when out of the blue
there was m/m action! Ok maybe there were clues and I just missed it.
Sometimes if done right and not on the page but suggested or talked about I am ok with but when they actually do things I just reach my ick factor. What's more this IS NOT ON THE DISCLAIMER!!!! With this being a major trend these days with erotica most ebook companies are really good about telling you if there is m/m action.
Needless to say I didn't finish the book. What a waste of my money!!!
What an exciting story! From start to finish, Ann Mayburn’s The Bodyguards’ Princess is an erotic ménage romance with aspects of BDSM and at the same time it is a thrilling spy novel. Almost nothing in this story can be called “ordinary”. Ms. Mayburn is a creative writer who establishes as her main characters a Goth daughter of a diplomat and two disgraced former Marines, hired to be the daughter’s bodyguards.
I discovered Ann Mayburn through her latest novel released in October, The Breaker’s Concubine. I gobbled it up and loved Ann’s rich and unique worldbuilding and scorching hot writing, so when I started reading The Bodyguards’ Princess I was expecting the same sparks and magic.
The Bodyguards’ Princess is the story of Lalita, the shy goth daughter of an Indian UN diplomat. Due to his position and importance in world politics to protect his daughter Lalita’s father employs two bodyguards to keep Lalita safe from all threats. Asher and Kent are both highly capable and droolworthy gorgeous male specimen, no wonder Lalita can’t help but dreamily stare at them when they are near her. Their virility and fine bodies inspire countless steamy fantasies for her.
The Bodyguards’ Princess was very hot and erotic, the seduction and sensual scenes between the trio burning up the sheets.
"Surprise filled his eyes, quickly chased away by desire. Ever so slowly, he lowered his lips to hers, and she could have wept as he finally kissed her. Soft, sure, hungry, his kiss was everything she had imagined, everything she dreamed."
What made me ambivalent about this story is a personal preference: Asher and Kent, besides being good friends are in love with each other. So it is not the two men being there to satisfy Lalita’s every need, but they are there for each other as well. And there are actual feelings and emotions involved in the mix not just sexual exploits. Even if I’m not a m/m virgin anymore, I’m quite inexperienced having only read about 2-3 such stories, and even when I’ve read ménages with two men, they are usually there to pleasure the female part of the trio, so I would have preferred seeing Lalita being the “main attraction”.
The mystery plot at times was a bit forced and improbable, and I kept swaying between finding Lalita a spoiled brat:
"Stiffening her shoulders, she yelled, “If you think I’m sleeping on the floor of this roach motel, you’re high. Who knows what kind of fucked-up disease I’ll get from the carpet.”
Asher strode out of the bathroom and squatted in front of her, placing his hands on either side of her and said in a low voice, “I know you’re scared and pissed, but if you could stop being a bitch at the top of your lungs for one minute, I would appreciate it.”"
or looking at her steel spine and independence with respect:
"“You think I’m something to keep around to fuck and cuddle? A possession you can pass back and forth?”"
Verdict: The Bodyguards’ Princess didn’t blow me away as The Breaker’s Concubine did, but it certainly was a nice, entertaining, whirlwind action packed, burning hot read!
3.5 Stars The Bodyguards’ Princess is a unique story filled with suspense: terrorism, fugitives, hypnotism, and near death experiences. These aspects combined with the pure hotness of the main characters are wonderfully entertaining. Lalita is a diplomat’s daughter who is wrongly accused of being a terrorist. On the run, her bodyguards, Asher and Kent, protect her and help her clear her name while searching for the bad guys. It doesn’t take long for the three to realize Lalita has been conditioned/hypnotized by her enemies to respond sexually to the word “bitch”. Though they work at finding a way to break her conditioning, the three also enjoy her intense sexual response. The sex scenes were hot while the ménage depicted was well written, with light BDSM and some M/M. There were a few drawbacks, for example, Lalita’s personality annoyed me at times. She was…brattish at times and I thought Asher and Kent’s long lasting relationship goals with women were a bit ridiculous. This is of Ann Mayburn’s books I have read and I must say, her writing style has caught my interest and I’ve already added a couple of her books to my to-read list. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy ménage with some light kink.
This book was great fun to read and I enjoyed the sexy bits as well. I liked Lalita, but was a bit more mixed about Kent and Asher, her bodyguards.
In the case of this book, I think the biggest flaw was it's length - too short. Everything happened too quickly for me to buy into it. Not the relationship so much, since Lalita had known both Kent and Asher as her bodyguards for several months, but the subplot with the anarchists. It just tied up too quickly and neatly for me. To be honest, I didn't really follow it very well.
In general, it was a great read, with Ann Mayburn's signature "strong female submissive" and sense of humor throughout the book.
What can I say? I loved the first half of this book. It was hot and sexy and then I had to make myself finish reading it. Once I got over the initial weirdness of the hypnosis plot, I was into the story. But then I honestly felt nauseous with the last part. The whole sub dom thing, whatever, but this was violent and gross and just uncomfortable. The mood was ruined and then add in the jealousy between the guys and meh. Also, Rashid and David were completely insane and there was way too much of them in the story. I honestly put the book down every time it was there POV. The first half, though...really well done.
I have been thinking about this book since I read it for the first time almost 2 years ago. Back then, I gave it 4 stars, but this book is way too good for just 4.
I have read a lot of RV since then, and maybe because this isn't really RV like we know it, I liked it too much.
Like, finally the MCs were together as much as they were together with the FC, and I think that is what is lacking in most RV.
This book was an example of how polo relationships can work and how jealousy can ruin the good things you have in life.
It also has a good plot, and it's well written.
I enjoyed re-reading this as much as reading it for the first time. If not more!
The Bodyguard’s Princess is hot, hot, hot. I lived on the razor’s edge through the whole story. The action is outstanding and the characters are all fascinating. The ménage in this story depicts wonderfully the work it takes for three to love each other without reservations or jealousy. Ann Mayburn offers the reader a sizzling story of love and adventure no one should miss.
Espionage, Yummy Bodyguards, Beautiful Goth Girl, Love, lot's of good Sex & you have a great read from Ms. Mayburn! She surprises me every time i read one of her books. There hasn't been many repeats & i love that. Not many authors can get away with it.
i found Ivan first & haven't been disappointed yet!! Enjoy! ;-)
Not usually a fan of menage stories but I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the heroine, the hero's were ok as well. I enjoyed the various threads of this story but I will agree the book could have done with being a bit longer.
Warning: This book contains hot, dominant men who will do anything to please their lady including light bondage, spanking, public caning, and decadent ménages.
this is one hot book. I always know Ann's books will be good and this one did not disappoint me at all. there was mystery ...hot buff men, sexy gal...romance and kink...what is th e 're nit to like.
It was an ok read, I just couldn't connect with the characters in general. The ménage aspect was ok, I didn't like the fact that the male leaders after being in love with each other for so long where fighting over a females attention when both said they loved her. I read this book because of the sugar kink tag also I love most of Ann Mayburns books!
