Christopher B. Donnan is Professor of Anthropology at UCLA. Considered one of the world's foremost experts on the Moche, he has studied this civilization for more than four decades, combining the systematic analysis of Moche art with numerous archaeological excavations in Peru.
This is a nice survey of Precolumbian Peruvian pottery, which was written as an exhibition catalog for the Fowler Museum at UCLA. I think most of the pots in the book now belong to the Fowler. It's a handsome oversize paperwork which surveys all the major archaeological cultures, with clear photos and illustrations, many in pretty good color. This is a really good introduction to Peruvian prehistory, and well-written too.
The book is said to be out of print, but I bought my copy new at the Fowler a couple of years ago, so have a look if you visit (and you should). I seldom visit without leaving with a sack of very reasonably-priced books....
