In the early part of the 2000's I was an facilitator for adult early childhood educators to expand their knowledge of pre-literacy skills important for preschool age children to possess before entering kindergarten and how they can help promote reading skills as the children learn to read. Creating a Classroom Literacy Environment: A Guide for Childcare, Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten Teachers is an excellent reference with quick answers for busy teachers to help them improve the literacy program planned for the children in their preschool classrooms.

Subjects covered include how to prepare a literacy rich classroom, reading aloud as a primary teaching tool, the best books for the best teaching, making a literacy home connection and helpful hints for preschool teachers teaching pre-literacy skills. These are just basic topics with lots of subtopics to enrich the classroom, the home connection and give preschool children literacy skills and why they are important. It is an excellent reference.
