The first part of this book comprises a theoretical introduction concerning the semantics of static as well as animated pictures. The editors pursue the exciting how can the semantic fields of pictographs be ordered?
I'd almost be willing to say that the giant poster that accompanies the book—which contains the enormous collection of all the pictograms depicted within—is worth the price of admission alone.
Thinking that the complete icon collection was also included on the enclosed CD-ROM, I'd initially given this one 5 stars. Unfortunately, I later realized that the CD does not contain the files; but rather, an animated presentation of a select few. That was disappointing, to say the least. However, the book remains a terrific resource.
