Margaret Coel is the New York Times bestselling, award-winning author of the acclaimed novels featuring Father John O'Malley and Vicky Holden, as well as several works of nonfiction. Originally a historian by trade, she is considered an expert on the Arapaho Indians.
So this book is 15 pages long, with two full-page illustrations, in a limited edition format. Apparently, the theory was to have each of her short stories published this way... Kind of an interesting concept--I always like a picture to hang the plot on.
Anyway, this took me about 3 minutes to read. An agitated woman appears in the doorway of Vicki Holden's law office saying she want to kill her two-timing husband. She dashes back out, but when Vicki calls the tribal police office, they tell her the husband is already dead. Hmmm.
Good story. Spare and concise and just the right amount of detail.
