A favorite book from when I was a kid. Sweet, mostly timeless story about a generous boy wanting to keep his dog - and the birds in the tree outside his window - safe and warm by building him a new doghouse. Fun transparent overlays showing the outsides and insides of houseboats, offices, castles, a tree, and more to flip back and forth. One of my favorite overlays had hair that went from one guy to another.
Doghouses aren't as common today, but the dog isn't relegated to his; in fact, the boy brings his dog inside by the fire on a cold, rainy night and around town with him, and he would prefer to have the dog stay inside with him at night in general but wants the dog to have his own special house.
It was printed originally in 1972 (the copy I have is from then and is falling apart); looks like it was reprinted in 1980 but not recently. I hope they reprint it; it's a wonderful book.
