If you are looking for a book about animal and plant life under the sea this is not the title for you. The focus of Hidden Under the Sea is about various human explorations and use of the sea in various ways. I found several of the double page spread illustrations with accompanying brief text to be interesting. Also there are random facts on the illustrations that were fascinating, for instance Ambergris, an ingredient in expensive perfumes can only be found in the sperm whale’s intestine, an illustration of the H. L. Hundley submarine used in the Civil War and powered by men, and that boats or ships that dredge the ocean or river floors are either a drag or suction type dredge.
The two most interesting pages were making the current tunnel between England and France and the fact it is constructed within a cave of chalk 230 feet under the English Channel and last and definitely not the least the information on nuclear submarines, I have thought they were nuclear powered which they may be, but nuclear weapons are stored and fired from submarines.
Where have I been on this last fact?

Anyway this title would be great if it had an update since this was first published in 2001. This title Is definitely good for future marine engineers.

This was a visually appealing, chapter/ section (glossary) type book about the sea. It talked about living under water, tales of sea monsters and mermaids, scuba gear, and working under water or in the sea. It wasn't of my interest, but I would be curious to see what someone, who's interest it was, would say.
I could imagine that if we were doing a lesson on different jobs in the world, this could be helpful with fisherman and oil drillers, engineers and sea divers.
Maybe use the small part of tales to introduce a story.

i was looking forward to reading this book but i was disappointed when i opened it. there was too much writing and stuff and didn't attract me at all. it might be good for other kids who like the ocean but i will not be reading or talking about this book again.
