When an investigative reporter begins digging into a Hollywood cold case, someone will go to any lengths - including murder - to ensure the truth remains hidden. Freelance writer Kenny Rubin has an unusual magazine assignment: to solve the strangulation five years earlier of aspiring actress Melinda Rivers. And she's supposed to do it before the airing of a TV movie that's probing the same subject. Many of the people involved in making the movie knew Melinda and, as Kenny begins interviewing the principles, people around her start dying. Someone, it appears, is afraid the truth really might surface. When events take an unexpected turn, she finally puts the pieces together - only to discover that she's delivered herself right into the hands of the killer. Jackie Diamond Hyman lives in Brea, California.
Danger Music is a fun mystery filled with diverse and interesting characters. The characters make the story, and Diamond skillfully develops each personality.
The protagonist is an amateur sleuth who somehow finds herself more involved than intended. As she delves deeper into the mystery, the main character battles her own set of problems. Her personal struggles give this story a unique slant. Her issues were foreign to me personally, but I found it easy to sympathize with her.
Danger Music kept me entertained from beginning to end. This story will likely appeal to those who enjoy a good character-driven cozy mystery.
