“Peer Inside My Soul and See Me” by De Ann Townes Jr is a very touching and sensual collection of poems.
The collection starts with a quick speech to her muse, her inspiration, to me personally somewhat reminiscent of the beginning of Homer’s Iliad, I am not sure it was intended necessarily , but it was just the right way for me to open up to her poems. I am not a regular reader of poetry but was intrigued by the many recommendations for the book. The invoking of the muse was the perfect setting of the scene and the poems to come.
These wonderfully written pieces show a woman that is most sensual, loving, craving for that ultimate connection, a woman who gives everything in her love, a woman who craves essence and protection in togetherness.
You cannot remain untouched by the great flow of words, the lyrical writing and the author’s honesty about her strong connection to her partners. This intensity of love – as some poems tell us – sometimes leads to strong pain from the loss of such love… “the Us that was”.
Giving birth, her child representing the love and the meaningful connection with the father is another strong theme in the book. The author has a wonderful way at looking at things in poetic ways, a great sense and perception of beauty and a touching way of feeling. She seems to experience everything strongly in large amplitudes of emotions, uncompromisingly honest, giving and bearing all to her lovers and to her readers.
Reading this brave and soul bearing collection has been a very intense emotional experience, the author draws you into her world and her soul and you cannot help but feeling with her love, pain and loss. A very talented writer whom poetry fans should put on top of their to-be-read list.

I don't often read poetry, but every now and then I come across a book of poems that touch my soul. There're many such poems here, it is hard to pick just one, but if I have to I'd say Haunted Dreams and Midnight Screams really hit it for me.To quote the author this is
"A Story of Childhood Abuse and Effects Even In Adulthood What Happens In the Dark Finds Its Way to the Surface Of the Injured Persons Soul"
The poems are not your typical Hallmark-ish verses though I could see some on a card or two. They all celebrate life, love or talk about the pain of loss and betrayal, or encouraging to go on when life seems to bring you down. They read smooth and fast, some rhyme while others are free style. I'm sure everyone will find one that will hit home and take that special place in the heart. Something to remember in good days or bad. I recommend to keep the copy of this book around, if only to brighten your day.
Oh and I must not forget the author's sketches throughout the book, they are tantalizing and so vivid I wish I could see them in original.

I first have to say that I am not one that reads poetry a lot. However, WOW!! This book is some of the best I have read. The author truly is gifted in conveying her thoughts and emotions to leap out of the page and touch you.

Many times I teared up with the emotion that had poured onto the page. It was as if the author was sitting right there guiding me into a look of what lies in her heart and soul. I have only read one other poet that touched me this way and it was Sylvia Plath.

If you enjoy poetry that is much more than rhyming words thrown on a page; this is the book for you.

My favorites are Misunderstood and Fade to Black. However, when I read those that were dedicated to certain people, it touched something in me. To feel such raw emotions simply by reading words off a page is rare. De Ann is truly a talented poet!

I received this book free from the author and have in no way been paid for this review.

De Ann Townes Jr.'s Peer Inside My Soul and See Me is a poignant walk through what it is to be human, in its raw, heart-wrenching, childbearing, betrayal experiencing, loving making magic, which her poetic words yield. Her work, reminiscent of Rumi, in sensuality, is a walk through feelings, and what it is to be alive, what it is to experience, and more significantly what it is to be aware--of oneself, in all the pain and glory. A beautiful, well written, poetic read. Paulette Mahurin, Author of The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap

This is a little gem wrapped with powerful emotions from joy to sorrow; it speaks of loving so much it hurts to breath when your soul mate is not with you. Expressing the gratitude of cherishing every nuance and fiber of a partner existence, letting him know he is his everything, with him life would be empty. Then the author spoke of her birth of her son, the death of a dear friend's son, the letting go of her own son and 0ther sentimental topics.

It is not just a poetry book but a mirror inside one' soul. Like an artist with paint and canvas she expresses her personal thoughts to create a deep and spiritual awareness of human existence. Shining upon the truth about the Light and dark, the good and evil, the spiritual and the wonders of all that is to be cherished but also the black abbess of tormented and agony of the broken hearted and to know when it is time to grieve and laugh again.

There are approximately 44 poems to review and each one touch this reader to the core; such intensity of formulating magic with words and vocabulary to create a symphony that vibrates and resounds in one's soul.

Out of the choices which call deep to this reader was title” You”. I copied part of this one to let you see the inside window, peer into her soul of this poet's heart and acknowledge her awareness of inner consciousness and the deep connection she has with her muse expressing her thoughts. .

You

Red dawns
Dragons colliding with ancient warriors
Lost horizons
Into the deep blue pool of mystery, deep within my heart
Rhythm to my music, earth to my soul, fire to my ice A prelude to my forever with
you, a prelude to the soul.
Was I wrong?
A dark corner of tomorrow
Underneath the guise of caring, of a smile of love. Warming, calming, cradling and
soothing
To the heart and soul, rejuventating the senses.

The poem continues, but this reader concludes here to let your imagination take over and call to your essence to yearn to review yourself this little gem with so much power. The poems are written as if her family generations are whispering in the wind, the truth about humanity and the highs and lows of the ripples of human emotions of experiencing life on this blue marble.

She has won awards and as she declares she is “I’m artistry through fluent and flowing poetry in motion and I’m letting it flow.” Like the rip tides of emotions this writer has touch upon hidden meanings of so many facets of life. Highly recommend this for poetry readers and ones looking for inspiration. 5 stars

Firstly I want to thank De Ann for giving me the opportunity to read your truly astonishing book of poetry. It truly is a jewel to keep close at hand as an expression of guidance in your life. (I‘m in love with this book!!!! ) A collection of expression of the life, love and loss that occur in our lives.

I was so excited to get the chance to read for review De Ann's book when I spoke to her, that I read it almost completely the next day. (even though I had others to do)

I have been repeatedly going back to different poems/poetry in this book to read again as something pops into my head. (saying to myself , wait I know that I just read something about this… and then you find it)

De ann pours her soul and heart out as she express's the tribulations and turmoil that she goes through in her life. But as you are reading each one you can see how they are written, then realize that what has been written can easily be applied to your very own struggles or triumphs in you life. The idea to me is to take what I have read in this book, and then mold it into my life and learn to overcome, and conquer.

The magnitude of beautiful, inspiring, soul lifting, touching and delightfully captivating poetry will have you taking many a deep cleansing breaths with every passage that you read. Breathe in slowly, then exhale slowly as you read this collection of poetry.. You will feel the benefits as you do.

The glory of the beautiful words will have you enthralled, holding you stead fast until you read Peer Inside My Soul and See Me completely, (most likely a couple of times) as it gives you hope in this life that all will be well within yourself,

I so look forward to reading many more of Author De Ann Townes Jr beautiful works of poetry. Thanks again De Ann for the gift of this inspiring collection of poetry.

A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE in my point of view…

Peer inside my soul and see me
By De Ann "Native" Townes Jr
When the author first approached me to read and review her poetry book I was very hesitant. Poetry, you see, is not my forte. So I tried to convince her that I am not the person she should entrust this book to. She however told me that if I am alive, I am more than qualified to read her book and to review it. The act of living is after all the only thing, according to the author that I needed to fell an informed decision on her work.
I was petrified. My knowledge of poetry is minimal to put it lightly. My love is with fiction not poetry. So at first I kept on putting off the reading of her book. I felt overwhelmed. Then when I finally started it I was overcame but the sheer beauty and hope captured in so very little words.
It turned out the author was correct. If you are alive, lived through what normal mortals live through you are able to read and enjoy this book. With poems with titles such as Like Bonnie and Clyde, Misunderstood and Haunted Dreams and Midnight Screams, I was soon drawn into the life of the author. As her title suggests this is truly a deep soul bearing compilation of poetry. But it is not only her soul she bears bare. It is a universal expression of life, love and loss.
I was delighted with the art in the book and found myself paging back again and again to peer at it. I've read the book three times now. Not so that I could have something to say, but because after every read I find the book has even more to share with me. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who loves words. The author's ability to use normal, everyday language to create the most amazing of images and emotions is a true form of art.
I give this book a 5 ***** review rating and would like to thank the author for not taking my first no as my final word on the matter.

I was given this book from the author to give an honest review.

De Ann has talent in writing poems. There were many poems that I could relate to or touched me in a way.
These poems will touch your inner heart.

A couple of my favorite were
" You Are the Artist and Creator of My Masterpiece."
"Killing Me Softly Feels Real Good."
"Today My Child Was Born To Me, Today I Let Him Go." My son is not quite a man yet since he is only 6 but this really touched me as a mother. I know soon I will be able to relate.
"To Live Is...."
"My Love, My Husband, My King To Be In Love So Deeply To Feel Our Love for One Another So Completely... A Dedication to the Man That I Love, the Man of My Dreams, And the Love That We Feel."

A couple of quotes in here that I could relate to were the following:

"So many times in life, what's meant to break you can actually strengthen you. As long as you are willing to take the time, do the work and find that special center core of who you've always been. You will make it through..." Native

"Who you are, is who you will be. Live strong, live honorable, live life..." Native

And the last one
"The strengthening and rediscovery of a relationship between two people in love can be a wonderfully amazing journey..." Native.

I normally do not read poems to review but with this one I gave it a shot and truly enjoyed reading each and every one. I did catch myself going back to one just read it again because it was great.

Beautifully Written, Poignant Poetry

De Ann Townes Jr. opens up the most intimate places in her being, inviting you to read her, all of her: the passion, the longing, the hurt. She takes you deep inside, in spite of her pain and vulnerability, because at that moment, the moment when you peer inside, her emotions are most raw, intense, and vivid.

Her poetry is about her love, her jealousy, and even about her longing to be defined by her lover. At times she lets the man she loves think of her as if she were a big canvas. With total submission, total rapture she lets him become the creator of her existence. Such are her images, images that elevate the ordinary into a poetic vision. Her rapture sweeps her, and him too, into a mystical spell of destruction.

De Ann shows no hesitation when she introduces certain expressions, once in a while, in spanish into her poems, which adds a special touch, as if you caught whisper between the two of them. She gave special attention to the layout of the book, where all the poems are 'centered' on the page. This makes the words, and the varying length of each phrase, become a graphical element black on white, as if the poem has turned into a graphic vase, holding the words inside.

Highly recommended!

My review~
I received this book in exchange for a honest unbiased review.
First I would like to say that poetry isn't really my thing. There are some works that I love, especially going through Senior English class for school. I clearly misjudged this genre since it is not one that appeals to me to read. I was tickled pink that I feel in love with this authors beautiful work. This author is very passionate with her heart on her sleeve in her work. I loved the emotion and connection the author had with the readers. I will absolutely read more of her work.

“A Soul Reaching Glimpse of an Author Named De Ann "Native" Townes Jr “

I wrote poetry some years ago. It was a time where puberty hit and the words gave me a vent on life as I knew it at the time, unbearable (lol). As days grew shorter and my age became more aware of the hours gone by, I drifted away from the beautiful imagery of poetic sways.

Typically, I embrace poetry when it is posted on a wall or tweeted among a stream. Therefore, it has been a decade for me to read a page-turner such as ‘Peer Inside My Soul and See Me’. In this read, you will find yourself quickly wrapped within the lovely display of words and enfolded with the knowledge that it has been far too long to embrace poetry.

Imagery is a hard balance when writing. Too much and you lose readers in detail however with too little there is no true depth. This is not the case here in the verses of De Ann Townes Jr. Within the creases on a profundity, beauty takes hold and you find ‘Peer Inside My Soul and See Me’.

Review of De Ann Townes' Peer Inside My Soul and See Me as reviewed by Timothy Louis Baker: Peer Inside My Soul and See Me is a passionate compilation of poetry. The author offers quite a revealing side of herself with triumph and tragedy surmounting the heat of passions. Depicting her private thoughts on her own blissful experiences she doesn't stop there but also to share the hardships of her losses, with details of mournfulness combined with her supplying the all important intimate female side in the relationship. There she takes you through a curlycue again, mentioning and expounding relationship on both the better and worse finally divulging on loss of love upon passing of production of that love. I recommend this book of poetry to anybody that enjoys the passions of love and romance delivered with the story of blood, sweat and tears, filled with wonders and woes. As reviewed by Timothy Louis Baker seven time author.

‘Peer Inside My Soul and See Me’ is a really beautiful compilation of extremely deep poems. I do feel like the title fits the book so well. De Ann has a flair for writing poetry and it really shows in this book. I feel like in these poems, she opened up and gave us a glance into her deepest most heartfelt thoughts.

She did a great job picking the poems to put this compilation together. They flow very well together. The poems themselves are beautiful, deep, and heartfelt and they really help you get to know the author. I have never been a big poetry reader simply because it just didn’t click with me but I really enjoyed this book and De Ann’s poetry. I think she did a wonderful job with this book and poetry readers will love it!

Chocolate for the Soul, September 11, 2012

This review is from: Peer Inside My Soul and See Me
Peer Inside My Soul and See Me may be by far, the best collection of poems I have ever read on love, reflection and heartbreak. When I read Dark Angels, I was transfixed by the cadence and flow of her thoughts, her gift of describing pain so well, her words vibrating with pure emotion. What a joy to read! 'Killing Me Softly, Feels So Good,' has a mildly erotic flair that will
make you blush, but is superbly written. Page after page, I was astounded at just how many beautiful moving poems De Ann had written, well over a hundred! You will be very pleased with this amazing collection and it deserves five stars and beyond.

A Pleasure to Read

Definitely one for a rainy day. This is a delightful collection of poems, is beautifully written and with incredibly inspiring words, which stir your emotions in a way I would not have imagined from such short passages of prose - and for someone who doesn’t usually read much poetry, this book came as a pleasant surprise.

I haven’t read them all yet, simply because I don’t want to finish this all at once. I want to savour it. I know I’ll be picking it up again soon - maybe even save one for each day, especially at times when my own creativity is lacking and I need an inspirational boost. Lovely!

A Soulful Connection

I was impressed with the author's skill in expressing her innermost and personal thoughts of her heart and soul. Her prose elicits beauty and all of the qualities of a women's strength of spirit, power, zeal and gentle sensitivity, as well as her innate wisdom and strong connection to her Native-American roots.

The reader will be touched by Townes magnificent passion as she celebrates life, the ecstasy of love, and the moments of sorrow when she mourns her losses and the absence of joy.

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Ok, let's just start with, I usually hate, yes hate, poetry. Not my thing, never has been. I went into this book with the idea of just getting through it so I could post my review. Well to my suprise, I actually enjoyed it. The author is passionate about her poems and you can tell through her poems. They are really good, as far as I can tell not being a poet myself. LOL If you love poetry, this is a must read, and if you aren't a fan of poetry, give this book a try anyways. I think it will suprise you, it suprised me. WaAr

I was given this book in exchange for a review.

I don't normally read poetry so when I do it does take me a little while to get into it, but this was a great little collection.

The book improved as it went along as the first couple of sections did feel a little repetative and about a third of the way through I was wondering if I could get through any more poems on love and sex but I got there in the end and much prefered the poems on other issues, especially the one that talked of suicide.

If you're a poetry lover you'll definitely enjoy this.

Its been a long time since I've sat down and just relaxed with poetry, it seems my days are so rushed with things that have to be done now! This beautiful collection of poems was just perfect for an afternoon of sipping coffee and relaxing. De Ann paints wonderful visual images with thought-provoking words. It was a wonderful hour of immersing myself in snippets that remind you of those moments that linger in memory when strong emotions are unleashed- anger, passion, and love. It was a wonderful read.

I'm not a huge fan of poetry, I'll read it every once in a while when I'm feeling down. I read Peer Inside My Soul and See Me twice in one sitting. It was such a beautiful, soul-soaring book! I could literally feel myself being uplifted and moved as I read. It's not often a book moves you this way, and boy did this one. The font the author uses in the book is even stunning. This is definitely my "go to" book when I'm having a down day now.

Emotional, Heartfelt, Thought Provoking

I was gifted a copy of this book. I have much respect for those people who can write good poetry since I do not have the gift of poetry writing. This author wrote some of the best poetry I gave ever read. The words flow beautifully across the pages of this book. The author pours out her heart in her writing.

My favorite poem in the book is "Questions Eclipsing All I Once Cherished". This poem was very emotional and heartfelt. It spoke to me personally. My other two favorites are "While In Pride You Dwell" and "Time Put In".

I highly recommend this well written book to anyone who enjoys poetry that speaks to the heart and soul.
