Join three Yellowstone National Park experts in their remarkable discovery of the park's 200-plus new waterfalls, most of which the American public, and even Yellowstone park rangers, have never before witnessed. These trailblazers are the first to document the existence of these spectacular natural features -- at least 25 of which tower to heights of 100 feet or more -- and the authors do so through striking photographs, engaging text, and detailed maps. The book also features the park's 50 known waterfalls and reveals the untold stories surrounding many of them. For nature-lovers, adventure-seekers, and Yellowstone aficionados alike, Yellowstone: The Discovery of its Waterfalls is a landmark work, combining natural and human histories with unbelievably rare geographical discoveries.
This is an amazing book of beautiful pictures on quality pages of most of the now-known waterfalls in Yellowstone NP. The writers are a team of three men that spent a lot of time finding rumored and new waterfalls. They tell about almost 300 and each of the writers firmly believe there are many more. Another great thing about this book is that these adventurous, scientific, outdoorsmen are very articulate and literarily knowledgeable. Each waterfall picture is accompanied by a chart that explains what type of waterfall it is and how hard it is to find it. They describe bushwhacking through dense underbrush, climbing through scads of fallen trees, and sometimes wading up to their waists to get to a good vantage point. They tell us if they don't recommend trying to see it because it is too dangerous. Sometimes they name the newer found falls with wonderful names they remember from their readings of mythology and fairy tales. These are bright, talented, and brave men who wrote this book. They present us with wonderful pictures of waterfalls that most of us will never have a chance to see.
One of my all time favorite guidebooks, despite knowing a couple of the authors ;) I have read this book cover to cover, because it’s just that fun even if you won’t make it to so many of them.
